Well, went looking at Tablets to replace my 5 year old Galaxy TAB4..

It's doomed to be stuck on Android 5.0.2 and is feeling a bit sluggish, and the older Bluetooth takes forever to connect (15-20 seconds) to my Square reader. Plus, it would be nice to have a S-Pen 'cause people still don't understand that resting your palm on it and signing with your finger messes it up...

So, gee wiz. Options are very limited out there. Google got out the game, no new hardware. Basically it's down to Apple, Samsung and Lenovo... Which pretty much leaves Apple and Samsung.. So, Samsung then ;-)

Between the 2-3 models I would actually consider, based on price and specs.. The Tablet it dead folks.

So much for all the hype that the PC was dead.

Android tablets always sucked. Hell, even flagship Android phones are slow and buggy. I'm not fan of Apple, but the iPad is the clear winner here. I'd get an iPad Mini. The full sized iPad is just too big.

Strongly disagree there...Googles Pixel phones have been a home run..rock solid and fast. And many of Motorolas higher end models are loved too.

I have a pixel 2XL that has been the best phone I’ve ever owned. But for tablets only iPads are any good. I finally caved and purchased an iPad Air 3 and it’s turned into my primary device.

Same. I've never had any issues with my Notes.

I am looking for a tablet too and pretty much have decided to get one from China as all the big names are just getting to pricey, it's either cheap and too slow, or it's an expensive rocket ship with more afterburner you will ever need.

There is one that has raves reviews, Alldocube T8 Ultimate, it's on sale at AliEx right now for $76 CDN, that's 8" with OctaCore CPU.

The other one I'm looking at is the SICO 8" Windows 8.1 Tablet. I have modern store apps I want to run in the field, and that one is slim, not amazing specs but for running one app, should be fine.

I've been happy with my Android Tablets over the years, and for a 5 year old device.. my current one still works just fine. I haven't really found them slow or buggy (It really has been solid for 5 years). It's just time for an upgrade. The new tablets with the Octa-core CPU's are blazing fast, I was just shocked at how much the entire market has contracted in terms of choice... then looking at YoY sales figures, tablets are dead... There's like 7.3 Billion people that never got one, Apple or otherwise.

@Barcelona - I have the option of looking at Asus and some other "low-end" brands that exist here but I generally get "a good one" because of the longevity and secondary tasks, other than being a POS.

iPad mini is still too expensive @ $400, and ~$600 for the one I would want. I don't care for their non-repair clause and BS battery warnings/slowdown for 3rd party repairs. I've already replaced the battery once in my Samsung.. so, for the Apple I would be spending $700(Battery replacement $100) for 4-5 years of use, for my Samsung I have spent $220 for 5+ years of use.

At some point, instead of buying an expensive POS tablet, I could just get a real POS like a PAX S80 credit card processor for $125 and Dharma as a merchant for $10/mo. at 0.25% transactions. So, really, the iPad is a non-starter from a 'brass-tacks' point of view.

I'm gonna wait for black Friday sales and see what comes up.
