Want to put together a "let's meet tonight" site for a vacation spot - ideas?

Ok, so I have a good location in mind that I want to start a very simple site which will allow people to post things which they would like others in the area to read. Examples:

-Group of single 20's-30's guys looking for some ladies to meet for drinks and maybe dancing.
-Singles party at club XYZ from 5-8pm - Dress casual
-Looking for people to go scuba diving with on Tuesday
-Married couple seeking other couples for golf and drinks

So basically the posts will be informative and I would like the ability to have others respond and the initial posters to reply as well or change the OP.

Also, I'm thinking of something like a general "for sale", Wanted", Free, etc section as well. Kind of like a mini Craigslist.

Now my question is, what is the best way to do this with existing software? I'm thinking of using phpBB3 as it is free and pretty powerful. Does any think that this should work well for this application?

Any ideas to add or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

you could probably use wordpress with a directory or classifeds plugin to achieve what you want.

Thanks to both of you for your input. I setup a phpBB because it is what I know best and I like the discussion forum part which is the biggest part where I thought people could share times to hook up and such.

I need to figure out the best way to consolidate the forums at the top 4 categories. I am going to try to get sponsors to have them posted on the front page and then have non sponsored places on subforums.

I'm really curious as to how to add images to the descriptions of the forums if that is possible, maybe something like a small avatar of 50x50 or something.
