I was wondering what everyones process for virus removals and pc tuneups are. Mine is currently:

PC Tune-Up - Rune Ccleaner to remove temp files, Ccleaner to clean registry, Ccleaner/Revo Uninstaller to remove un-needed programs, Use Ccleaner to delete all but latest system restore point, Disable all startup items but Anti-Virus, tweak visual preferences

Virus Removal - Run Rkill, Run Malwarebytes, run SuperAntiSpyware

Just opened my own repair store and looking for assistance with a steady process for tune-ups and virus removals as i have been getting a ton of them

I do flat rate $24 repairs guaranteed in 24-hours so any help would be appreciated

Well good luck with your business, I think you will need it. The price you quoted and the turnaround time isn't sustainable as you will very shortly find out. Forget about the price, the 24hr turnaround bit alone will cause problems.

As regard the removal process this has been discussed virtually weekly, just do a search.

I have not had a problem accomplishing the 24-hour turnaround time so far in 5 years...Difference now is i have a store and 2 business partners who are both capable of doing repairs as well and we do repairs 24-hours a day. No other repair company in my area can offer that and they are suffering because of that fact

In that case I apologise and stand corrected. :o I didn't realise you were 24hrs, I was thinking of office hours.

As far as the cost for the reparis, i am currently averaging between 5-7k a week revenue between sales/repair with most of my business coming from the repair end. Ask yourself one question if you could pay $.25/gallon for gas or $3.99/gallon and the gas was the same quality as the other place which would you go to? Then think about which one of those 2 companies is profiting more and is more successful as a company.

I personally think those processes are inadequate.

I think $24 is fair for someone to run two free malware tools on my system and call it a day. But if that is your business model and it's working then more power to you.

So you're repairing what about 170-250 computers a week then? That's amazing. Where do you get that kind of business?

Which gas firm would be more profitable? I'd say the one at 3.99 since the other would lose money since you cannot buy gas at that price. Even if you could, they would also have to sell 16 times as much gas as the other firm to generate the same sales income, requiring them to spend even more money on extra pumps, space to house them, maintenance costs and staff. So probably need to sell more like 20 or 30 times as much gas to make the same profit.

I don't think you can call it a Virus Removal service. At best it's a clean up. The chances are you will miss infections and rootkits. Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware are not the bee all and end all.

The $3.99/gallon gas company would not be in business because their entire customer base would migrate to the cheaper competitor. Let me give you a situation i have dealt with many times in the various companies i have done tech work for (Best Buy, Staples, etc.): A customer comes in and states that they are having problems with their pc running extremely slow. So as a tech for this company i would offer the tune-up/virus removal approach (roughly $39.99 for tune-up staples is free and $99-$129 for virus removal) customer always opts for the cheaper alternative first. So in this case, the customer says do the tune-up and then maybe they will decide to do the virus removal (28% of Best Buys customer went with virus removal). So to figure the math on profit for Best Buy: PC Tune-up = $40, cost to pay wage of tech for the hour $8. So Best Buy makes (Retail price) $40 - (Cost) $8 = $32 profit. My scenario: (Retail Price) $24 - (Cost) $0 - $24 profit. What really makes the difference is i have a 100% chance of getting the virus removal out of the deal due to the cost of both repairs. So in the same scenario my profit 100% of the time is (Retail price) $48 - (Cost) $0 = $48 profit equaling a $16 profit gain over Best Buy with the same customer. And that is not factoring in the likeliness that the customer is more willing to do a memory upgrade if needed in my situation due to the lower cost as they would in the Best Buy situation and that will create more customer retention and prevent a customer from going to multiple different places to have their computer repaired and nullify the need to shop around for best price.

How do you come up with a cost basis of "0" for your own shop work?

Ah but we're also saying that Staples costs are merely one hour's gross wages for a single technician. So that equals it out

I'm just re-reading the posts. You're opening post says you have just opened and then in a reply to me you're saying you've not had a problem in 5 years with 24 hour turn around  So for 5 years how have you been working on the scale you say you have? Your post is about gettiung to work more efficiently because you are getting a tom of 'em. You will do at those prices. Sorry to question you but it doesn't add up.

The full process i run on a virus removal, other than the manaul removal of reg keys, appdata folders and startup items, is rkill, then do full malwarebytes scan, followed by superantispyware if needed, then i run BitDefender scan for viruses. Update client anti-virus (install security essentials if av is not present), install offline windows updates, and then the finishing touches (Reset browsers, ip settings, ccleaner).

Have you got a website I can have a look at, I'm well impressed with the money you're making? :)

Well, if you don't sleep or eat, there are 504 hours a week available for three people. At two hours a computer it just about works.

My BS-O-Meter just broke.

That is different to the process you started the thread with? So what was the point in posting the other process? BTW that process will still miss things.

I just opened my store provide myself with added room for repairs and adding the sales end of it. Business was ran out of my home for the past 5 years. Staples essentially loses money on every tuneup (Whatever wage the tech performing the tuneup is being paid), however they are relying on the tech upgrade factor (Which is a much higher success rate then Best Buy) to make their money. and i figure my cost as $0 because i dont have to pay anyone to do the repair as i have no employees

The purpose of the thread was to see what other techniques others are using to remove viruses. The only set process that will never miss anything is a restore. I didnt include added details originally because they are a given (like making sure power cord is plugged in) it was an ie starting point
