VGA not working... but has dual DVI card

I have a custom built computer that I'm working on. I only have VGA monitors. I plug in the VGA cord and it doesn't seem to be working. They were not complaining about video problems. The computer does have a dual DVI card. Is it possible that the VGA port is disabled?

The BIOS is probably configured to use the card first. Have you tried removing it?

Yes. If you unplug the DVI card, the internal vga will start working.

Also really need to have a DVI to VGA adapter!

Yes it is typical for onboard video to be disabled if a dedicated card is installed.

just a reminder to everyone, the brand new cards don't have dvi-i so i believe you would need an active adapter if you want to use vga which tend to be a pita. Of course since op mentioned dual dvi this probably doesn't apply but I thought it would be a helpful reminder.

Yes, if your bench monitors are only VGA, to be covered for every possibility you need both DVI-D to VGA and DVI-I to VGA adapters, HDMI to VGA and DP to VGA. Those last two will set you back a couple of bucks. I don't think I've ever seen an HDMI-only computer, but I have certainly seen DP-only (I'm looking at you, Dell), DVI-A-only and DVI-I only (HP consumer models are great for this).

FYI, I just got this new Inspiron 3650 in to set up for a small biz. I plug in my VGA monitor, start up the PC and get an error message from the UEFI telling me that I'm using the embedded video port and should use the add-on cards VGA or DVI port.

I had a fun one last week with someone who has a Quadro 4000 in an HP workstation. He only has one monitor, a 2560x1440 Samsung (I think) that supports DisplayPort, and a single DisplayPort cable from one of the card ports to the monitor.

The PC was seeing 2 monitors (actually, 3 when I got on, but #3 was "disabled"). Hopefully fixed by updating with the drivers from Nvidia's site and by deleting all 3 "generic PnP monitor" instances from Device Manager then letting it redetect on reboot - that stayed stable through a few, so I have hopes.

DVI-D to VGA

That adapter will not work. It needs to be an active adapter. Like this one.

DVI-D is digital only. DVI-I is analog/digital.

The ones that support analog have two pins on the top, and two pins on the bottom of the blade.
