Mosquito-Borne EEE Outbreak Hits Parts of U.S. in Record Numbers

Yup, I live right in the core of this one! Just east of the Connecticut River, in CT. One of my friends from high school, his mom was one of the first two deaths in our state from that. He's a celebrity chef, and teacher of culinary at some college in CA, he flew back about a month ago when she was rushed to the hospital and went into a coma and the docs couldn't figure out why. I met him at a restaurant to catch up, had a good time, and at the time they didn't know what she was sick from. Went quickly downhill the week after that. The 3rd death is walking distance from where we ate last night...and we keep our boat right by there, we're at the boat 3-4 days/evenings a week. Cutting that down big time now.

I'm mixed on this - Keeping my pistol in the safe doesn't help me much if my home is being broken into at night.

Yeah...at first I was mixed. The answer is "carry all the time at home". But of course..when you go to bed...don't want to fall asleep and have your kid tip toe in and grab it from your nightstand. But...I shopped safes and got one that fairly quickly accessible...I've run the "open it while closing my eyes" drill so many times I'm pretty quick with it..buttons to push in a certain sequence.

And this week it became law in our state..any guns at homes where there's a kid...must be locked. So...I'm being law abiding.

I should have mentioned while the pistol is readily accessible I keep it unclipped with the clip hidden but quickly accessible. My daughter is older and no longer lives at home.

@Diggs, I have small kids in my house. But they've all had time to play with my weapons in a supervised fashion. They don't "sneak" around to get at them because they aren't taboo to get!

Not that you need it any more because yours are grown, but for my kids teaching them about stuff is fastest way to ensure they have no interest. If I really want them to mess with something, I try to hide it from them...

Your kids might not be interested...but their friends or acquaintances might be.
