I find it ironic a whole 6 people die from vaping and they are going to ban it when 100 million people world wide have already died from smoking tobacco products i lost both parents both grandparents on both sides, 3 aunts, 3 uncles and 2 cousins to lung cancer from smoking.
Guess as long as tobacco companies keep greasing palms of politicians it will keep going on forever good thing i never started or even touch that stuff current statistics the World Health Organization (WHO) today warned that 1 billion people worldwide could die of tobacco-related causes this century unless "urgent action" is taken..
They call 6 deaths an epidemic? i would like to see anything with nicotine banned.
I have seen my parents try to quit after a few days they are shaking like a leaf and sweating like they are in a sauna till they could not take it anymore and start back up again they tried nicotine gum ect. never lasted more than a few weeks.

They're going to ban flavored vape products like bubble gum and other non-tobacco flavored formulas. Mfgs will have the ability to apply for FDA approval. Tobacco flavored formulas will remain, but I think they'll need to apply for FDA approval too.

When vaping was new the Obama administration didn't enforce FDA regulations in an effort to help people move away from cigarettes. Now it looks like non-smokers (kids) are picking up vaping and that's what's driving the new regulations.

I'm only repeating what I heard on the radio today. Here's an article from the NYT, certainly no fan of Trump, if you'd like a little more balance. Some of the comments are interesting.

Comparing people dying from vaping vs cigarette smoking is a challenge. People are dying from vaping related causes, but it can only be from a very short exposure, as vaping is almost brand new. In other words that small number of deaths could be considered immediate. While smoking deaths are decades in the making.

Problem is that many vapers are ex-smokers. So hard to tell if it's the vaping that kills them.
It's probably wise if non smokers remain non-vapers too. But it is unwise IMO to throw away the potential health benefit that ex smokers may gain from by vaping rather than smoking tobacco.

The people that died from vaping ALL were vaping THC. Thats is something the drive-by media fails to tell everyone. THC is the chemical in weed that gets you high. Vape that shite in concentrated form like those that died did and yeah, your going to die.

95% of the tobacco companies are in the US and 95% of vaping companies are in China. I've been vaping for over 5 years now - after smoking for over 25 years and I feel the benefits of vaping. I can breath, smell, hear and taste and I don't smell like a chimney. Granted, I don't have any ill towards smokers, I was one.

Tobacco and alcohol have killed millions, yet they are found still in every corner store/gas station there is. The government doesn't ban them because they make so much money off of them whereas vaping gets the government pretty much zero. Its the power of money that drives things, look at legalized weed in certain states, even though it is still a federal offense. States are making a huge killing (no pun intended) on weed sales and so is the federal government.

Yeah, I am a vaping ex-smoker too. I have no factual evidence that I am healthier, but it feels at least 10 times as healthy. It's also less of a habit now, not one cigarette after the other type behavior. A couple of times a day I sit down, relax and vape actually enjoying the taste like enjoying the taste of food.

And indeed, a few incidents vs:

"Cigarette smoking is responsible for more than 480,000 deaths per year in the United States, including more than 41,000 deaths resulting from secondhand smoke exposure. This is about one in five deaths annually, or 1,300 deaths every day." - from https://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/data_statistics/fact_sheets/fast_facts/index.htm.

Don't get me wrong, please look into these cases and get to the bottom of it. But allowing tobacco and banning vaping is ridiculous. Since vaping I every now and then browse science sites to get the latest on vaping and health risks and until now I have every reason to believe that vaping is actually healthier than smoking and it is best to refrain from both.

One thing that may be a factor is that those modern vaping devices are 'hipped-up'. The older vapers weren't as sexy to younger people I guess. And if I am not mistaking those Juul type devices contain higher concentrations of nicotine too.

Yes, they are the THC vapes.
Yes, THC is what gets you high.
No, vaping it in concentrated form isn't going to kill you. No one has ever died of a THC overdose.

They are buying black market unregulated vapes that are contaminated.

Though I did just see an article where they are saying one was bought at a legal shop...

Vaping is probably bad for you, but smoking is DEFINITELY bad for you. Banning vaping while making smoking still legal is ridiculous. That's like banning TV dinners while allowing candy, pastries, and pop. Yeah, none of those things are very good for you, but TV dinners is probably the least of the evils.

The THC vapes have oils in them that won't evaporate, people are literally drowning in the oil... that's what caused the last burst of injuries... not deaths... injuries.

I don't begrudge the FDA for getting involved here, it's rather their job to do so. But the means through which they are doing so is as always... bonkers.

But you'll notice that tobacco products aren't facing a ban... despite causing far more injury.

This is just more big business using government to crush small business... follow the money.

It would be a more interesting and accurate discussion if everyone stopped saying they're banning vaping. They're not banning all vaping. You'll still be able to vape, but your choices will now be regulated. Just like tobacco.
Their banning flavored ejuice, however, there is already a work around for that. Selling the flavoring separately. That's what my local vape shop - which conveniently my neighbor on the other side of my shop :D - has already begun to stock. However any ban will be months from going into effect giving ample time for everyone to stock up on current stock.

Sure, and it all makes just as much sense as using taxes on tobacco sales to fund healthcare initiatives... And then wonder why the programs go dry because of generations of education campaigns and high taxes on the products drive down sales.

Vapes are clearley more dangerous than guns in DTs eyes!

Totally separate subjects.
It's the easy accessibility to school kids that is a big problem with e-cig brands. They've been targeting school age kids as their audience..and until very recently, available to school age kids at corner stores like a soda pop. Firearms don't target kids with their marketing and generally require quite a process to purchase.

Buncha cheap unregulated chemistry lab exports from china...burn it, inhale the smoke...now we have health problems. Who-Da-Thunk? Almost as smart as the tide pod experiment..todays kids ain't all that bright!

So, e-sigs being sold to kids of course is a problem. And yet the 'panic' about them because of reported deaths and potential measures is difficult to understand and explain perhaps if fire arms cause so much more harm without being banned (potentially). I guess this about what PCS means to say. And I think you understand that too but do not want to address that point.

Well, I don't see a "panic" about them. Yes it's on the news a lot..but..well, that's the news...it's their job to over hype..and follow a certain political agenda.

However I am happy to see increased rules and regs get passed. I wasn't happy that my daughter and/or her friends...(high schoolers) could get Jules so easily. We've confiscated a good amount of them from her.

I still don't see the comparison to firearms.
*No store could sell my daughter a firearm...she is not of age,
*nor does she have her carry permit (yet..until I take her to classes in a few years)
*It's illegal to carry a firearm onto school property...a very big illegal
*and I don't have to mention that it's illegal to shoot people without cause.

My wife and I seem to have won the battle of juling with our daughter..I'm sure she still does it a little bit when out with friends but not nearly like she did say a year ago. And the bad cough she developed last year is gone. Her friends..I know a few that are jule lovers....they all cough now..all you can hear when they're over our house..them coughing.

A pretty darned high percentage of high school kids are doing it now, since the ecig (mostly jule) industry targeted them very successfully in advertising. The long term health effects are unknown...as obviously since it's a big trend only in the past couple of years, we need data from the next decade 'n more to start building statistics and data that is meaningful So we don't have much evidence now. Nor any idea of what lays ahead for them healthwise.

For those that don't have kids...pretty much a "I don't care".
For those of us that have kids..it's yet another worry. Back when I was in school..it was good old fashioned fairly simple cigs and natural pot. These days..just about all the pot is laced with <who knows what>..and cigs have a lot more chemicals in them now, and now we have these jules with who knows what coming out of china.
