There was a thread here before discussing if cheapwindowsxppro.co.uk had illegal Windows.
It seems to have been deleted, most likely because it is illegal?

That is a big mistake, someone might need to know if that side is legal or not.
As its very confusing,
the pay side is verified by McAfee so the payment is legit?
And I cannot fine anything on the Internet about it.

They are selling pirated software.
Tried and tested it.
Stay away!

The pricing on that website is pretty much competes with Microsoft's prices for OEM's such as HP, Dell, Gateway, etc.

I don't understand?
"Compete with"

What has that to do with anything?

Meaning those are impossible prices. Thus meaning they are illegal copies. Besides the legitamacy of that website is questionable as well. But if you want to part take is software piracy and lose the trust of your customers then go right ahead.

You seem to be avoiding the rest of the communities advice. There are thousands of websites like this offering "Windows for only $20.00, legal" or "Photoshop CS4 $49.99 + Shipping, legal!"

I would never trust that website based not only on their pricing but also on their websites quality. I'm not bashing/flaming you, but you really want to believe what isn't true. These guys are not legit.

So, what do we see wrong here?

  • It is owned by a UK Individual, not a company. Microsoft would never sell in bulk to an individual like that
  • It is only a 5 month old website. It seems this guy just got in business! Or he keeps getting a new domain everytime he gets caught
  • It is hosted on nearlyfreespeech.net, a webhost that is commonly used by pirates due to their "Penny prices webhosting"

I'm also writing a letter to the registrar Tense Internet Ltd. as this website needs to be investigated for fraud as well as a background check on "Mr. Alphie Benson" is in check. I'm also writing a letter to Microsoft to let them know about this little pirate, they don't take kindly to lost profit and I don't take kindly to pirates either especially the ones who profit off of pirated works. Maybe I should write a letter to mr. Alphie Benson, but I doubt that's his real address.

OH, and I also forgot to add that they or should I say "this guy" is not a Microsoft Authorized Reseller and didn't even make an attempt to make it look that way.

You are flaming me.
Relax.
Talk to me, don't lecture over me like a child.

There is a law, every country has it.
Innocent until proven guilty
You have to be very sure before you make claims like that.
Are you that sure?

He was NOT flaming you. He was telling you the facts.

If the guy behind that website was selling legal copies of Windows legitimately, he wouldn't be able to offer those prices. End of discussion.

Now, if you want to try to install a copy from there on a customer's computer, just be prepared for the repercussions from both that customer and from Microsoft.

Well in all honesty they may be legitimate copies. But at those prices he might of stole them from Microsoft's storage warehouse.

Also, sorry for the flame- Like Daifne was pointing out I was just pointing out the facts, granted in a rather flamey way. But you can't ignore the facts can you ;)

You should actually thank him for providing those facts for you. You seem like you are waiting for one person to say it's legit so you can pull the trigger on it. If you want to take the chance, go for it.

No mention of providing a COA and super cheap prices means it's almost guaranteed to be illegal/dodgy.

Cue, don't get so defensive. You can interpret what people say over the internet in different ways, but JosephLeo was simply telling you the facts.

I too looked up the 'credentials' of this supplier, when it was first posted, talked to a few suppliers and colleagues and then moved on.

In fact that is something every tech here could or should be able to do for themselves

Don't forget in this day and age nigerian princes have produced some incredibly sophisticated copies of big name websites and made significantly more believable scams.

But this is not really the point I want to make here.

I would just like to observe that this thread is an example of excessive use of resources in that whole or nearly whole posts are being placed as quotes in subsequent posts.

I try to extract just the relevant part or even just a few words so the viewer can find and read the whole lot if she so desires.

im looking for proof that this is not on the up n up.

Ive seen none to date.

It gets my approval for being in the UK, and having bean reported months ago and still being up.

As I cannot get anything other than "its to cheep" as an answer, I will simply buy one copy using PayPal, check it when it comes in the mail (if it comes).
If it does not come within 30 days I will make a clame with PayPal and get my money back.

There are different ways of guiding, telling and/or talking.
Do it nicely.

Honestly, why even post this question in the first place? You obviously don't want to listen to the majority of responses here. None of us can prove 100% it's a scam unless we buy from them to prove it. We're giving you our opinion based on several facts and our experience. So, instead of looking for the response you want (that it's legit), just go ahead and buy from them and be done with it.

+1- I really don't like it when people ask a questions but don't like the answers they hear and choose to go against the advice they are told.

Amen to that! Almost worse when it is family and or friends, almost...

:D

I was asking for someone that knew.
Someone that could point me to a story from a buyer that got burned or something like that.

I appreciate your option and feedback.
Your experience and facts are valid, but not conclusive in any way.

So I will try, and post back.
That will be 100% fact.

I don't like answers that are not based on facts.
Please remember, advice given is not mandatory to follow, never.

I find it odd that you don't like it.

:D Well please tell us the results. If this is somehow the 0.001% possibility that it's legit then I think we ALL will be using it from now on.

Ok, maybe to end this back and forth...I have NOT used it myself but a quick google search tells me to RUN AWAY!!!!!

I found this on a forum where someone asked about the same website...

"After looking at the page, I noticed something shocking:

"In the rare instance that a key doesn't pass validation, we will immediately issue you a refund."

Red flag! Rare instance? A valid key will ALWAYS pass... "

http://forums.techguy.org/windows-nt-2000-xp/841231-www-cheapwindowsxppro-co-uk-too.html

IF a company sells legit software, it should NOT fail, perhaps that is enough to convince all it is not to be trusted????

Also found another forum mentioning the same site and it look even more like a scam...

"ok, won't be doing that! started to order it, ad it directed me to another site 'www.plimus.com' so i google it, and one of the more popular searchs with that url is scams....read a bit more and they start taking unauthorised pyments from your account!

AVOID!"
