Tension on TN

Well, I will just put contrive on my ignore list as of now. That takes me out of this mess.

I think this whole thing is because I used the phrase "I hate to ruin your day" when I maybe should have used "I hate to tell you" or maybe
"Well, sorry, but" or something like it. Wow, if I could only turn back time. Oh the humanity.

I think these forums would be a lot better if like we have friends lists, we also had enemies lists... and we could have battle royale events...

oh wait... nm

butthurt noobs dont die

You cant leave it alone can you...
...For a guy who has been on this board for less than 3 days you sure are having a heck of a start.

I'd Suggest you go back to page 1 and see who truly carried an extinguished thread over. Furthermore, check again (in the mirror) to see who continues to carry it over while blaming me for carrying it on.

For a guy who has been on these boards for... I don't really give a damn how long... you sure think your opinion of me matters and you speak for everyone.

Yall want to keep firing at me, go right ahead. The more yall take these weak swings at me, the more your unprofessionalism shows through.

I'd suggest you define "yall", so it doesn't look like you're encompassing the entire membership. Or, I don't know, maybe let it go.

I myself find this forum to be a truly marvelous accumulation of knowledge and experience contributed and discussed by the many generous technicians and business owners who are members here. Rather than continuing to pursue this issue, might I suggest devoting your efforts more toward contributing to the TN community. It’s a “win/win” scenario: The forum may benefit from your unique experiences, and you get the opportunity to build credibility along the way.

Wow, Contrive. You sure have (as another member aptly put it) a lot of "butthurt". Thanks for quoting me as it certainly pointed out who I was trying not to name.

Yes, I posted what I did because you'd been making a lot of effort to attack a well-respected member of this community and I wanted to say what I wanted to say. For a guy who keeps calling someone else a "Know-it-all", you sure seem to think your **** don't stink (as my daddy would say).

Did you come here from a forum where you were put on a pedestal or something? Are you used to being told that what you've said is gospel?
Did. They. Ask. You. To. Leave?

I love technibble. The ability to spend time to go and see what other professionals are doing is a fantastic thing. The ability to post what problems are stumping you is even more powerful.

I feel that there are two problems stemming from one major problem. The major problem is un-professionalization.
The two sub problems are the backbiteing\bickering (and yes, I have seen this increase not just in the last month but slowly over the last few months) and the second issue is the openness of pornography. I don't feel the need to be told that every man looks at porn (if you say you don't you are lying) and to have clips explained in graphic detail.

As a fairly junior member, that is my opinion and I don't mean for it to be an attack on any member, new or old.

How about following the "sticks and stones" philosophy?

Someone please extinguish this fire. The flames are getting higher!

Regards,

It really amazes me as to the extent people go to argue things on the internet..... anyways i really think general respect and professionalism seems to be lacking alot.... anyways i just try and stay out of it...

I do get alot of laughs out of the people who pick fights though. :)

I like turtles.....

ohhhnoooozzeee... not another futile insult!!!

If this keeps up, I'm going to commit suicide and blame it on cyber-bullies :(

Thanks for pointing out how much more ridiculously you non-professionals can drag out a deleted thread. Way to isolate the problem buddy  This is how we separate the dads-garage techs from the pros.

I think the most intelligent thing I can say that will add to this topic is this :

It is what it is. Noone should need to be angry, flame in a post, or do anything negative towards anyone else.

The problem with IT professionals (and I do include myself in this) is that we in general feel the need to always be right.

So, how about we all do what we should do here?

Just say "Isn't that interesting?" and go about our business ... finishing this little squabble.

Sure, most seeds sown don't grow, but I'd hate to be the one sewing thornbushes on my field.

I love this Idea..... To be completely Honest there are only a few members here I have respect for (after all it does have to be earned and not given). And for what it's worth, I feel they have earned that respect. This list is in no particular order.

1) Bryce....
2) Cadishead Computers
3) FoolishTech
4) Callthatgirl
5) NYJimbo
6) Xander
7) anonymous Mac Tech
8) Methical
9) JosephLeo
10) Martyn
11) angry_geek
There are a few others but you get the point.

Martyn..... Time for you to step in......

I'd suggest you define "yall", so it doesn't look like you're encompassing the entire membership. Or, I don't know, maybe let it go.

This I do agree wit this.... I do try to stay out of flaming wars and arguments. In fact, I have backed off quite a bit from posting.

I'd Suggest you go back to page 1 and see who truly carried an extinguished thread over. Furthermore, check again (in the mirror) to see who continues to carry it over while blaming me for carrying it on.
It doesn't matter who said what, It's said and done with now. So Drop It.

For a guy who has been on these boards for... I don't really give a damn how long... you sure think your opinion of me matters and you speak for everyone.

You are right, it doesn't matter how long you have been on this board... you can be here 5 years and not contribute to it but, NYJimbo does contribute..

Maybe, Just Maybe, you should try it too. It really isn't that hard. Just share what you know and stop trying to argue whether you are right or wrong.

Yall want to keep firing at me, go right ahead. The more yall take these weak swings at me, the more your unprofessionalism shows through.

Have you thought about how unprofessional you are looking right now?

I don't feel "tense", but I do get a bit aggravated from time to time on here. Here are a few examples:

A "tech" signs up bragging about his/her 15 years of experience, and he/she is only 22 years old. Really?

Someone acquires their A+ (or other) cert; now they know everything.

A "tech" starts their own business in their parent's garage and doesn't understand even the basic fundamentals of hardware or software diagnostics. They then proceed to bork a customer's machine and jump on here expecting all of us to bail them out. "Can't connect to the internet? Let's reinstall windows! Backup? Who needs that?"

A "tech", barely capable of basic support, decides all of a sudden they know more than all the combined knowledge of this forum and starts telling the world they are business computing specialists. Even though they start gasping at the mention of group policies, they expect us to hold their hands while configuring remote desktop and hypervisors. All this while bragging about the specs of the "custom" server they built for their client with parts from newegg.

"Techs" who begin arguing with the advice they sought in the first place.

No diagnostics!

Whiny little pukes who get their panties in a wad when they get called out on a forum designed for professionals because they're obviously NOT PROFESSIONALS!

There's more, but I'm out of breath. :banghead:

This.

I have seen all of this and more. About a year or two ago it got so bad there was a mass banning and the forum split. Several members went off and started their own board. They were not missed and TN got better for a little while.

I think there are several problems and its not just a TN thing but on all forums. If you are new I don't care how much you think you know, respect those who have been here 4-5 years and have a few thousand posts. I'm not saying they are always right because they have post count or years in but they just may have heard about that problem you are having after all these years.

Another major issue is internet anonymity. Normally I'm all for it but on a forum designed for professional it has no place in my opinion. People should have to be held accountable for their words and actions. If you would not say it to a person in "real life" you should not be able to get away with it on a forum such as Technibble. I never really liked this idea before but I'm starting to think you should have to have proof of being an actual business to be a member here.

Moderation: If the MODs did their jobs a bit better long term members would not have to step in and put the trolls in their place. Then we get written up for it? Has anyone noticed the core members here seem to always work things out? It seems like the trouble makers are the ones who regardless of post count or time it only post every now and again. And then only in response (attack) to certain other members.

Also, whats up with the Mac hate? Do people think that makes you sound like a "tech"? If Linux hate was as bad on here someone would have shut down Technibble years ago. But yet its allowed, almost encouraged.

bad guy here <----

It doesn't matter who said what, It's said and done with now. So Drop It.

Oh, so you mean we can drop it now that you've had the final say? Fact is, it was done with when the last thread was deleted. But someone (not meeeee) decided to carry it on, and even more people like you just KEEP carrying it on.

You are right, it doesn't matter how long you have been on this board... you can be here 5 years and not contribute to it but, NYJimbo does contribute..

Or, maybe, just maybe if your opinion wasn't biased for your buddies, you'd actually be able to see the truth of the matter here: There is and never was an argument of me being right or wrong. I simply backed up Mr. Foolishs opinion on the topic with more facts. Then, got ridiculed much like the way you are trying to do now.

Have you thought about how unprofessional you are looking right now?

Standing up for myself while being attacked by 4-5 so called professionals here is hardly unprofessional. More like unbreakable.

See, its ok for you and others to keep posting stuff about a closed thread and pointing the finger at me. But when I defend with facts, I'm the bad guy. If that's the case, the world needs more bad guys like me.

No..., I'm no. 12 !

(Actually, probably 112)

Wait....., I'm not a number, I'm a free man.
(Yeah, right)

Please guys, please cut down on the attitude. Things just get too personal.

If you get ****** off, just crack open another beer.

There are no "hard and fast rules" in this game.

I'm going to have a few words about this now. Some things for mods are very easy to resolve like spammers, obvious end users and the like. I ban them with a message and they are gone. New members the same although it's rare to get someone sign up and go in with all guns blazing. Established members are a lot more difficult as they have now a known personality and get a bit of leeway. Really I should just go by the rules but they are grey themselves. I've listed part of them below with a few notes relevant to the thread I pulled yesterday.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Forum Rules

All members are to respect the thoughts, opinions, and the right to forum use of all other members. Any personal discrepancies between members should either be dealt with outside of the site, or through site staff.

Needs to be done more. People have differing opinions and some people need to remember that. It's a forum and people will disagree, deal with it without getting personal

No End Users
These forums are for either current computer technicians, or soon to be computer technicians. We do not provide computer help to any non-technicians.

This isn't so clear cut. The second part 'soon to be technicians' is hard to define as what is everybodys idea of 'soon to be'?

Minimum Age of 16
Technibble is a community of professionals. We require our members to be at least 16 years of age.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone is :p

No Spamming. This Includes:

When posting a response to a thread, it must add to the overall discussion value of the thread.
Posts which do not adhere to the boundaries of the thread posted in.
Flame Posts
If you spot a spam post, please report it by clicking the button which appears in the top right of every post. However, please do not post that you reported the thread in the actual thread as it more than doubles the amount of work the moderators have to do.

Probably not reacting to posts is the best idea here and just report it. Just because you report it doesn't mean it will be deleted, edited etc

No Advertising
You cannot post advertisements of any sort in any forum. This includes products, services or websites that you would directly or indirectly benefit from in any way.

I let this one go sometimes with long standing members as we know their overall input is good

Exceptions to this rule (may be objected to which is at the discretion of the moderators):
Signatures - If you are posting good, useful posts then you may include your own website in the signature of your message.

This is broken often but again within reason I let it go. Everyone look at your own signature and see. To me the rule is that one link to your website is ok.

Infraction System
We run on a "3 strikes and your out" system here on Technibble. If you break the rules you will be given a "strike". If you reach 3 strikes you will permanently banned from the forums.

Rarely used in fact the last time I used them I got pms about the fairness and with drew them both! Again not easy to administer.

Forum Guidelines

This forum is a place for professionals and we expect our users to act like professionals.

I don't need to say more here. The majority of members adhere to this.

Please observe correct spelling and grammar. The members here don't want to have to translate what you are saying before they can help you. Any sort of lazy SMS/Instant Messenger writing such as "becuz u sed he reli fixd it" is heavily frowned upon.

Doesn't happen often and gets on my nerves as well if used. Fortunately most of us here are of the elder type :p and didn't grow up with text talk so our habits are good.

Remember forum members are not police. Either share your wisdom, ask legitimate questions or please stay silent. If you have an issue that you would like to bring to a moderators attention, report it.

This is where we fall down and what started the problem thread I pulled. The OP didn't give enough information or their methods so it got a few reactions to it. What should happen is nothing should be said the poster of the thread gets no help and might realise that they need to give more information. Maybe I should lock the thread until they do, I don't know.

Remember that everyone has differing levels of business and technical knowledge. Some people are very new to the business and are here to learn more, others are very experienced have been operating 10 years. Do not flame a user for not knowing a certain topic, they are here to learn.

Give people a chance to learn

Do not ask for technical help without having done basic diagnosis first.
If you are after technical help, ask good questions by telling us what operating system are you using, what were you doing at the time when it happened and what have you done so far etc.. This will increase your chances of getting answered and having your problem fixed quicky.

Ok this should happen more for posters and often starts the reaction off.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

You can all see where the problems begin and continue just purely looking at the rules. To get this on a more positive note, how can we improve on the rules of the forum? Post your ideas. Some of the reaction is frustration I know but lets get something out of this thread and Bryce can have a peruse of it. As regards the comment that mods should do more I agree but time is of the essence for us running a business. After this i'm out of the door for the morning so editing yesterdays thread will have to wait and like most I pull never make it back to the forums.
