SuperAntiSpyware license problems

I bought SAS Professional last year for my family PC. I thought it was a lifetime license (would not have purchased otherwise) and the receipt/invoice says nothing about it being for a limited time period. Three weeks ago Avast tech support said to uninstall SAS Pro to keep Avast from crashing. This week l reinstalled SAS Pro and now it is saying the subscription expires next month. Yesterday, I contacted their customer service but they insist that what I bought was just a 1-year license even though their copy of the invoice and receipt does not say that.

This treatment just rubs me the wrong way.
I am considering warning about 4,000 PC users to avoid SuperAntiSpyware.

Has anyone else here ran into this problem?

I've had nothing but positive experience with SAS. Closest thing to a problem I've had was a couple of systems didn't activate when given their codes during the install but took them fine when entered post-install.

First and foremost, what does your receipt say? This is mine from last year:
Invoice/Order Number
--------------------
20100207-00225152

Product Detail and Registration
-------------------------------
SUPERAntiSpyware Professional (1-User License) [ Registration Number : ###-###-#### / 1 User License ]

Order Date
----------
02/07/2010
I bumped mine up to the Lifetime version this year.

You've got to be keeping your receipts, right? What does yours say?

The receipt doesn't say 1 year, and doesn't say lifetime. How many vendors offer lifetime? With security software it's pretty safe to assume that unless otherwise specified, it's 1 year. I don't see the receipt as a reason to get upset.

What would be a reason to get upset is if the shopping cart webpage was not clear on what you are buying. I don't know what it looked like a year ago, but it looks perfectly clear now. (Assuming you bought from official site)

But in any case, even if the lifetime upgrade was $100, it would still be worth it.

Not so sure about that.

But anyway, I checked my receipt and it states lifetime licence on it. I would not expect the non-lifetime receipt to necessarily state that it's for 1 year if that is their standard unit of sale.

Might the simplest answer be that you merely bought the wrong licence by mistake?

The receipt I posted was for the Pro, 1-year version.

As MT says, the Lifetime version specifically says "Lifetime". I forward that to every customer that I resell the Lifetime version so they've got one on behalf of SAS. This way, should I close my business, they've got their 'official' receipt.

Coupons notwithstanding, if you paid $20ish, it's Pro 1-year. If you paid $30ish, it's Lifetime.

I wish I had saved the web page during purchase. If I recall correctly, SAS Pro licenses that I bought previously were all lifetime but that was before they started selling the lifetime subscription. I checked 2 of those PC's this morning and they do not indicate an expiration but I do not have the receipts for those. The receipt for Malwarebytes Pro does not say anything about lifetime either.

I ran SAS on an infected PC (XP) yesterday and it did detect several infections. I restarted the PC and scanned with Malwarebytes which found more. I wish I had the time to image the drive so I could run the scans in the other order to see if SAS Pro would find anything after scanning with Malwarebytes.

I think you may be confused. SAS was never a lifetime license before they introduced that option.

Malwarebytes has always been a lifetime license.

Not so sure about that.

Well lifetime licenses can be transfered to new computers. And let's say conservatively that a lifetime means 5 years, because by then people won't have new computers, they will have a brain-implanted computer chip and a jet-pack, or maybe just a smart phone. That's $20 a year (plus initial cost divided by 6), plus a standalone AV, which is quite reasonable compared to most solutions IMHO.

Hey sys-eng,
I know the owner Mike Duncan and I know he wouldn't want someone unsatisfied over a $10 upgrade.
Shoot an email to reseller[at]superantispyware.com (the contact for business development) and Mike Duncan will personally take care of it.

Excellent post Bryce, way to stand up. I didn't know Mike was the owner. I have to say that this guy is fast on email and calls, goes way out of his way to work with me on my crazy stuff I do and is just a freaking rock star. And I had a support ticket in for a virus and asked them to call me, not even 5 minutes later I got a call. Then Mike emailed me to make sure the support team was on it.

LOVE SAS.

Actually, Mike Duncan corrected me and he is the man for business development rather than the owner (I thought he was) but he is the man that deals with these things. He'll sort sys-eng out.
