Suggestion on Disk IO

I'm using iotop to try to find what's got my HDD writing/reading continually.
top doesn't show that much and nice top doesn't show disk activity.
Is there a package that will give better info?

iotop shows constant writes to/from smb -D but I've never seen it write constantly like this up to now.
No new software installed apart from regular updates and a new kernal today.

iotop shows constant writes to/from smb -D ...

If you start iotop with the -o switch (sudo iotop -o), it will only show the processes or threads that are actually involved in disk io, which may help. Pressing o (the letter) while iotop is running toggles the 'active processes only' on and off.
