I have a client who has a Windows 10 Home computer (Office 2016) and a Windows 7 Pro (Office 2007) computer. The Win7 computer accesses a file share on the Win10 computer called "Office Files".
All of the sudden when he opens a Word/Excel document on the Win7 (client), modifies it then attempts to save it, he gets an error stating the file is open and to please try again later.
Even when you start a brand new Document/Spreadsheet and then go to save it in that share you still get the same error when trying to save a brand new document.
When you hit OK to the error the 'Save As' window pops up and if you try to save it as a new document you again get the same error. If you keep X'ing out of the error and saving after 4-6 tries eventually it will save normally.
The issue does not persist in the host or client computer when saving locally.
I took a couple of screenshots of the open files in the host computer shown below:
Here is what happened when I attempted to save a document that I opened and then modified. You can see that for some reason the host computer is seeing the document open twice ... once in caps and once in lower case.
Here is what happened when I closed the 'file is open, try again' error on the client and attempted to save again and then got another error. Now we have temp files showing up.
After doing this multiple times eventually the document did save as if nothing happened.
I know a good starting place would be to upgrade him to 2016 but if that didn't fix the issue I wouldn't be able to reinstall 2007 for him and he is an older guy so learning newer things is bound to piss him off.
Any ideas here?
