I know I asked this question a long time ago but I thought I would ask again.

Is anyone still using Spybot as part of their cleaning process ? Up until a couple years ago this was one of the best tools for cleaning up infections and resetting stuff on a computer that was changed by the viruses.

However I think that because they stopped updating 1.6x and took so long to release 2.x that everyone abandoned it.

I have used it off and on since 2.0 came out and sometimes it finds things that others don't, but its not a tool I really think about anymore.

So what about the rest of you, is Spybot still in your kit or is it dead to you ?

Also used 1.6x quite a bit a few years ago. Tried 2.x but it wasn't all that great, so no longer use SpyBot at all.

Truthfully, the newer tools like RogueKiller, JRT, Adwcleaner (etc) are vastly superior to SpyBot (IMHO).

Spybot, regardless of version, is used a lot like Malwarebytes in my opinion. Something you install, and only effective if it is the paid for version config'ed to run on a schedule like a normal AV/AM program. Though I use MBAM as a tool part of our virus removals, we only use it when MBAM is not already installed. I prefer MBAM over Spybot as a virus removal tool because it does a more thorough job than say spybot when we are talking about virus removals. An after the fact someone has been infected.

Spybots immunization feature though, IMHO, is awesome. I've seen a lot of browsers beefed up on protection against redirects, and redirect viruses thanks to Spybot.

Haven't used it in maybe 5 years or more.

I used to use it frequently but it's been so long since I last used it now that I can't even remember why I stopped using it.

I'd completely forgotten about it until recently, when I noticed it installed on a customer's PC.

I haven't used it in awhile. I actually had no idea the developers had updated the product. I usually run MBAM and the other tools in its place.

It's MBAM for me now and it's rootkit killing companion MBAR. I don't remember why I stopped using SB or Adaware and SAS for that matter.

SB was one of the first free anti-malware products. The Teatimer function was great. I liked getting notified anytime something wanted to modify the registry.

Not used in a long time, infact I was fixing a pc with the professional version the other day, it was removed along with four other antiviruses it was amazing how fast the pc was afterwards.

I used MBAR and it detected and removed a rootkit a couple days ago on a clients laptop. Definitely did it's job there. :D

Ugh! The TeaTimer! Hated that thing! Most of the time, even I couldn't tell what it was actually trying to prevent, which means it was just an annoying pop-up to most of my customers. They just hit "Allow" on everything so it would go away. Don't know how many times I turned it off for people who thought it was malicious...

Haven't used Spybot since MBAM started doing a way better job. Like others, have kinda missed the immunization, but beyond that don't notice a lack...

Used to use it for cleaning along with Adaware, Superantispyware and Spy Sweeper back in the day. XP was king and life was simpler then. Ah, the good old days!
But seriously, I also used to use the immunization features too until one day I realised how SLOW my browsing was until I removed all of the THOUSANDS of blacklisted sites from my hosts file...

I always loved spybot. But it seems like something has changed about it that I am not really a fan of anymore. Also the point that Julian brings up about the thousands of host entries slowing down the browser is interesting, don't you think?
