All my Charter.net email accounts on both phone and laptop are down this morning. I'm getting cert errors. I can log into email through a browser.

"The certificate for mobile.charter.net:993 does not come from a trusted source."

Not sure what is going on? (I'm getting texts from customers asking what is going on? I'm guessing someone forgot to renew their certs but am still looking to find out what happened?

twc.com (which is the same, I believe, as charter.net, just depends on the region) is a nightmare. Anyone I run into that's using that domain for their email is told to get the hell out of there as soon as you can.

About a year ago someone couldn't get to their mail. I tried the usual things, assumed they had the wrong password. Couldn't reset password - that service was non functioning at the time, they had no way to do it, told me I'd have to wait. After a few days it started working again without changing any passwords.

Yesterday, I had the same issue with syrahost. I called Vodien and was told "everything was ok on their end" - as usual. After some back and forth with the agent they finally admitted that they'd changed from syrahost to cp-wc96.per01.ds.network and gave me new settings for Evolution.
Eye rolling moments!

Since I have Spectrum/Charter cable I use some of the free mailboxes that come with the account. Been using them for 25+ years and really no issues until now.

The old customers that have contacted me are using Thunderbird like I am so I was wondering if there is an issue there but I see the topic has blown up on Reddit on phones, PCs, Outlook, etc.

This falls under the, "These things will happen," category. If you're lucky (and it appears you have been) they will happen very, very infrequently.

I can't complain if any service provider of any type experiences a service issue once every 25 years and that gets resolved in a timely manner.

Not sure what's going on? The person responsible for renewing the SSL certificate for mobile.charter.net didn't do their job. It happens... a lot. Which is why the general wisdom is to automate certificate renewals. And why certificate lifetimes are being forcibly shortened to encourage this fix.

They don't care about mail and want to stop providing the service. They no longer offer new mailboxes. If you already have one, you can keep it, but they won't create new ones.

Add them to the list of "legacy providers" who've done similarly, except many of them have actually handed off all their email to other service providers and the addresses went with.

One that pops immediately to mind is Verizon. Verizon.net addresses went, en masse, to AOL at least 5 years ago. I know that someone else who was a major provider in the early days just recently handed off to Yahoo, but I can't for the life of me recall who.

I know if you have a charter.net email (admin for the Spectrum account) you can still add up to 5 new email addresses for the account. Used to be you had to have a charter.net/spectrum.net email address to open an account. Don't know if that still holds.
