Next week I'm finishing installing a multifunction machine for a business. At the moment they can print no problem. But I can't get it to scan to pc. It's a Samsung device. When I try it comes up with non available.

There is a server 2012, which handles dhcp. The print gets an ip address from the correct range. Is there anything I could be missing as I've done this a lot. But never on a fomain and don't want to look stupid when I go back on site.

On the PCs that can't be reached. The server has nothing to do with it and the router is for OUTSIDE traffic so it too has nothing to do with it. If you turn off the Windows firewall and it works then you know that is the problem.

Doesn't the device have a installer? Most do and takes care of everything for you. And remember that in addition to Windoze firewall they may have a anti-malware app with it's own. And I'm guessing you are trying to scan to a PC and not the server.

Yes - normally you would be scanning to the server. Individual user directories, or a common shared scan directory. Most business-class machines that I've seen come with a server component you need to install and configure. If you could post the model it would help.

Just an FYI...many scanners do not support SMB3 and even SMB2...so you have to manually kick the server down to SMB1

For security compliance, since scanners often scan to "sensitive folders" too...such as a human resources folder, use separate user accounts for the scanner for that (separate from the other accounts used for other general folders)...and limit the knowledge of that user account creds.

Great point. Forgot about that. I've had to do that on a number of occasions with M$ OS's.
