Resetting Surface Pro

MS has different reset utilities that the serial number of the device allows to download for this.
Are they all really different or is just one of those over the top specifications?
+ 11GB of download for each model? o_O :(

Not sure what you mean. Can't you use standard Windows 10 install media to do a clean install?
Just received 1 the client tried to do just that and it didn't work. After reboot the new install came up with a bcd error and nothing else could be done.
From a previous job I knew MS has some factory reset packages to create USB recovery drives for these.
Previous job was a Surface Pro 6.
This one is a 5, and the packages identifies them accordingly.
Not sure whether they would all be same thing with different names?

But that's the client's attempt, who knows what they did. What happened when you attempted a clean Windows 10 install?

I didn't try, saved myself some pain/waste of time just in case.
Downloaded the package and created the USB, and done it that way.
Not the best way as the package was based on 1903 and now have to bring it all up to date, other than that just a regular clean install.
Just wondering if someone else had been game enough to explore the options and could share the experience ;)

I'm pretty sure I've done clean installs of Surface Pro machines before, only a few over the years so I can't quite remember.

I don't know if you have used HeiDoc yet for Windows ISOs but it's a good tool to grab various Microsoft ISOs.

I am grateful to not see those things often. Hardware-wise they are often not repairable.
I do have a client with 2 surface laptops and glad he keeps image backups. Had to use it once so far.
Called about an Office issue and found even Windows was not activated any longer as well.

You install Win 10 using Media Creation Tool/ISO, then you find the package that corresponds to the device from MS. For some reason, Windows Updates doesn't include some of the more specialized drivers, etc.

Surface like most any pc or laptop has a preinstalled image. Those images are generally made for the exact model of systems they ship with. And most of the time you get a lot of bloatware with it. Chances are the end user downloaded the wrong one.
