Hi there all
This is my first problem post and i just wanted to see if anyone else has run across this... I have a 1.6ghz atom 1GB compaq mini 702ea netbook running xp SP3 which I use onsite to google, test networks etc... I was using a usb version of Microsofts ERD Commander 2007, for the system file check, which as far as i know is exactly the same as SFC /Scannow. I use this because it has never asked me for the XP CD, like SFC /Scannow often does (its a pain). I ran the tool and it found 2 files which needed replacing (corrupted apperntly), which is not particularly uncommon. I let it change them and, being my own machine, didnt bother to write their names down... anyhow, i went to boot normally and it wont. on loading drivers and services it gets to mup.sys and then reboots. Ive tried disabling the mup.sys and the agp440.sys, which would appear after it, no change. Ive tried all the usual stuff like system restore, restoring registry etc. Ive done virus scans etc just to check, nothing shows. Boots into safemode fine. Of course, I can just recover this from a backup or a Repair install would probably do the trick... Its just id like to know exactly whats happened and if this is common to you guys as I use this scan a lot on my customers machines as part of routine and I guess ive just been lucky that only mine got ill
Maybe its an "if it aint broke, dont fix it" tool,
Any Ideas??? thanks...
