I have a client who is unable to install the Windows 7 SP1. The initial error was 0x800b0100. I looked at Microsoft's KB, which said to run the System Update Readiness Tool, which I did. Continued to receive the error. The CBS log is below.

Afterwards I ran Microsoft Fix-It for the issue. I was only able to run it in Default mode as there was no option to change to Aggressive Mode. This did not change anything.

I next reset the Windows Update Components following the steps listed here: http:/support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 Still no change. I also followed the steps here, http:/support.microsoft.com/kb/910336 to remove the download directory, but with no success.

I'm running out of options besides doing a complete data backup, OSRI, and data recovery, something we would very much like to avoid. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

have you tried their offline update.? you can get it from here.

www(dot)microsoft(dot)com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5842

Silly ?, but did you just run it from Windows update? If so, I would recommend downloading the full standalone version, and try to install it again to see if it helps.

Downloading and running the update doesn't work either, still gives me an error. I have googled the issue, and the majority of solutions seem to involve deleting Microsoft-Windows-DGT-Package MiniLP~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~en-US~7.0.6002.18107.mum, a file not on the client's system. I ran sfc, which said it did not detect any bad files.

Discovered the specific corrupted MUM was for .NET 3.5 KB979900. I searched Microsoft and downloaded the relevant update, which did install successfully. Still giving me the same error. I also ran MSI Cleanup which did nothing.

Ended up doing a data backup and OSRI.

I also found myself into a KB979900/800F0900 situation.

I did all the steps you mentioned above, but I ended up with nothing...

Sometimes, Windows Updates are worst than Malware!
