We started with a 2 port PS2 KVM => 4 port PS2 KVM => 8 Port PS2 KVM with OSD switching => 16port IP KVM (USB) with 13 dongles

We can now do more machines at once (yea I know we have other on here that like the one monitor, mouse, keyboard per machine setup)

So we will have for sale an 8port OSD switching KVM if anyone is interested.

How does this work? I know standard kvms... but never used one this nice.

Instead of the standard kvm cables which has the Keyboard, Mouse, and VGA cables all in one band it uses a standard Cat5e Cat6 (RJ45) or whatever you'd like to refer to it as.

So on the back of the IP KVM we have local which is your console setup (LCD, keyboard and mouse for all the other attached PC's) then we have 16 ethernet jack in which to connect to other PC's each port gets a single RJ45 cable that runs to it's location (up to 100m (*330ft) before it should have a repeater) that end then plugs into a dongle that has the vga, and a single USB to send/receive video and keyboard, mouse control.

Since it is IP based I can login remotely and complete work from where ever I am currently located.

What do you do for the machines that don't have PS2 ports?

We have 13 dongles with ps/2 and have on order 3 with only usb but we have plans to order more of the usb type to replace the ps/2 we currently have.

I'm thinking 12usb, and 4ps/2 in the end (so we will be selling off the ps/2 dongles. (damn usb dongles are around $30-70ea)

yeah we have been looking at IP KVM for quite some time and would REALLY love one. The problem is we want one with at LEAST 2-3 users, so different techs can be working on DIFFERENT computers, rather been limited to the same one......this makes them god damn expensive. Having said that we are still seriously considering it!

I got this KVM and the dongles for $180

KVM sells for $350 on Fleabay and the dongles are 20-$50ea

I have a Raritan 16 port KVM switch, came NIB with USB dongles for around $70 shipped from ebay, they are very nice, but mine is not IP based.
