some of you had said that you are suggesting some open source/freeware alternatives to clients instead of pay software, just wondering what those popular solutions are?

This may be an odd question but why do you guys suggest free software to clients?

Surely selling software along with a service is a good way to make a little extra margin? Anti virus is the obvious add on?

A few of my clients are facing massive budget restrictions this year and most likely in the coming year as well. there is very little alternative.

Because I only sell services and not products. If I sold products then it would be a different story.

I don't have a shop either. Doesn't stop me selling both hard- and software. On Friday just gone I sold two VPN routers, 3 PCs, a projector, a laser MFC, 5 NOD32 licences, a licence for backup assist and 5 USB keys. Oh and a secondhand laptop That's about €750 profit right there.

Like I said, it's just something I care to do right now. Glad to see it's going well for you.

Hey, each to their own. Just trying to get the point across that you can make money on sales without a retail presence.

Thanks for the good wishes and I hope you're doing well too!

Generally install Firefox and Adblock plus as a matter of course, for security reasons and encourage the user to use them.

For anything else the user needs I'll recommend software that does the job with a minimum amount of fuss, VLC over WMP for instance.
