New TP-Link Wireless N Router Issues

I decided to replace my perfectly operational TP-Link wireless G router with a TP-Link wireless N router so that I can use all my Internet bandwidth. The wireless G limits the bandwidth to half it's potential (30 Mbps).

When in mixed mode (b/g/n), it performs slowly. An Amazon reviewer mentioned this issue and recommended setting it to N only mode and using the wireless G router for legacy devices. Not cool lol. I set it to N only and my Vizio 60" smart TV w/ wireless N will not connect to it. Also, a client's wireless N laptop won't connect. My laptop, GF's laptop, tablet, and phones all connect. It performs fast.

Also, I noticed that it's much faster when I changed the channel settings from auto to a static channel (set at 1 now). There's maybe one or two other faint router signals where I live. It came with the latest firmware.

I discovered that using my TVs keyboard on the remote was the issue. It appears to enter the password in capitals. I used the on screen keyboard and it worked right away. Still don't understand why the laptop wouldn't work and I won't be able to use devices that use wireless G.
 
Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do? I need to figure out if I'm going to need to find a new router.

If you ever have connection issues with WiFi routers, then first thing is to turn off all security, both on the router, and in the case of the laptop, that as well. If you get a connection with the security turned off, then you know it's the security settings.

Me personally I can't say I've used much TP-Link equipment. Worked with other types of routers but at least for home use I prefer netgear. Just have always had good luck with their equipmen seems to set up easy and work.

Try disabling security. Reset the router back to default settings and maybe change what channel it's broadcasting on.
 
You are missing something important here.

If your wireless N router is in mixed mode, wireless speed slows to G if you have a G device connected and using it actively.

You can alternatively see if your router allows for channel bonding. To allow N connections and G connections to ise seperate channels. If they use seperate channels you should then be able to use mixed mode with no speed hindrances. Most routers don't come with channel bonding on by default.

Second option is use both routers. N and G different SSID. g.tplink.net and n.tplink.net. See if you can load DD-WRT or other open firmware and set it as an AP/switch. This is the better of the two options in my opinion.
 
Sorry to tell you this, but you made the mistake I did: You bought it. I got this to upgrade my home network to gbit speeds, and it has been one issue after another. I started with dd-wrt and had issues with wireless dropping so I upgraded, downgraded, went back to stock FW, tomato fw, upgraded again. This router has a mind of its own. Sometimes it'll work for 2 weeks no problem, sometimes I'm having to reboot 5 times in a row every 10m. No firmware has been able to keep this thing stable for longer than 2 weeks. GL and let me know if you find the secret :)

No that is just channel width. That will widen your channel to 40MHZ which could cause issues with wireless G devices.

If there is no option for channel bonding. You may need to use oopenfimware. Tomato, DDWRT, OpenWRT, or a derivative. Honestly you would get more functionality out of it anyway if you flashed a open firmware.

Where may I find channel bonding. I don't want to mess with the firmware. I want a router that just a works. I can return this to amazon and get a different one.
 
I have not got this particular router but usually I use a router that can natively have more than one SSID, or use DDWRT etc. As mentioned, mixed mode for compatibility can make the whole thing run at the lowest speed.
At home I have an Asus router with four different SSIDS switched on. One G, one N for personal use and same again but isolated for customers machines. I also have an isolated WAP with DD-WRT running WPA for testing old stuff that comes in.

Please recommend a router for me between 50 and 100. The only requirement is that I get full wireless n speeds in mixed mode. I bought the to link because they've been reliable and super cheap.
 
My gf says she has had to reload a YouTube video 3 times now so she switched to her Verizon Internet. She wants me to connect the old wireless G router. I'm considering getting an Asus router.
