So I have a new build for a client. Got an MSI Z270M Mortar Mobo, i7700k CPU, HyperX 212 Cooler. Micron Ballistix Sport 16 GB udimm. It also has an NVIDIA Quadro K1200 Video card.

The strangest thing is when I go into the bios the video is kind of corrupt. The best way for me to explain it is that if I start with the first menu item, CPU I'll see the screen clearly but then when I go to VIDEO, Memory and so forth the screen does not "clear" and everything keep stacking on top of itself making a big mess I can't read.

I've run the latest version of Memtest86 (v7.4) and gone 4 passes without Errors. I've also changed slots and installed the memory stick in the recommended slot as per the manual. The motherboard temperature is at 30C and the CPU at 39C. I've been able to get into both Hirens' boot CD and Gandalf's WinPE without issue.

I'm not sure at this point if it's a motherboard issue, video card issue and a memory issue at this point. I'm thinking about flashing the bios once I attempt (If successful) to install Windows 10 Pro on it but I'm quite nervous about bricking the motherboard. Firstly I may get an 8 gig ddr 4 2400 stick just to see but I don't have any on hand.

As another note I did look up the compatibility list on MSI's website and I didn't see this memory listed but I did see the same specifications. I didn't choose these parts btw, my client gave me them to build without consultation.

Any suggestions ?

As someone who accepts custom build jobs, do you not have a "known good" video card you can use to test with? That'd rule out the GPU.

I'd guess it's a mb issue. Updating BIOS may fix it, but it might also just "appear to fix it" by seemingly working while having a hardware issue.

For something brand new, high end, and for a custom build user who's going to beat the hell out of that machine most likely, I'd RMA it and get one that works right out of the box. Otherwise, prepare for a long string of customer complaints.

Who needs the video card anyway? Connect to the integrated video output on the motherboard, either DVI or HDMI..

I'd be far more inclined to suspect some sort of minor incompatibility issue with the old card or an actual bad card than to suspect the motherboard/CPU being bad, but only in the BIOS menus...

This, dont waste time with it. It'll burn time now as well as later. Just RMA it and be done with it.
