I have a Sony Vaio Laptop Model: VGN-CS320J

· Tried to get an image to my NAS, one hour later cannot find destination drive

· Grab a hard drive hook to laptop shoot image to external hard drive, three hours later can’t find destination drive.

· Tried same things to PATA drive same results.

Plan B

Remove hard drive and install new SSD (120GB Kingston) and put fresh install Windows 7 Pro everything is peachy.

· Windows update spins for hours looking for updates nothing happens.

· Windows fixit and fix updates.

· Download WSUS install from updater stops installing twenty minutes into update.

· Use WSUS ISO that I made – same thing stops installing ten minutes into updates.

Plan C

· Install new memory - no joy

Got to walk away from this thing for now any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Maybe I read this wrong but did you remove the HD from the machine, put it on another machine and then try to copy/clone/image it that way ?

never removed hard drive was just trying to get an image to shoot onto an SSD. when that didn't work I had to do a clean install.

Must be in the air. I had an all-in-one Dell a few days ago that would only work if speed step was disabled in the BIOS. Never seen anything like it. Your problem here sounds like a motherboard issue if you've installed a new hard drive AND new RAM AND a clean install. With a laptop, there is really only one other option it could be. I'm assuming your doing all these things over LAN so the WiFi card wouldn't be an issue.

I think you hit it on the head Matthew. Let Windows update scan all night and it pushed out about 60 updates and there is about 178 with a new install. it must be short in motherboard because it works when it wants to , but most time it doesn't. What is really hard to believe is that the darn thing allowed a fresh install first try without any problems at all.

Telling customer new laptop time.
