Hi there does anyone know how to use microstars software to repair a "broken" hard drive. The problem is that the hard drive is not showing up as C:/ it is showing up as New Volume. When i remove it from the machine and connect it to another as slave it then shows the windows and documents folders etc etc.

I have suspicion that it has had a quick reformat before. Is there any way to make it recognisable again it a western digital 2.5" sata scorpio drive 320GB

It boots into vista no prob also btw.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Yes tried that first, shows up the size in disk management but in my computer it will show only new volume and 0 bytes. Just seems that I can't get it recognised at all. I really don't think its physically broken it isn't that old.

it sounds like the MBR is screwed, most probably the HDD has a non-standard boot record to accommodate a rescue partition.

It boots into vista no prob also btw.
So it's not broken?

Try remove all jumper at the back of the HDD and let the system to recapture the drive.
Remember the jumper position, you may need to put the jumper back later.

Hope this helps!
Bill
