MBAM Compatibility with SBS 2011

Is anyone running Malwarebytes as the active Anti-Malware Software on a Small Business Server 2011. I've been installing it on all of the client machines and I would like to install it on the SBS 2011.

It appears based on these comments (http://community.spiceworks.com/topic/157968-malwarebytes-on-sbs-2003) it is not recommended unless someone else has a different experience?

As a rule these desktop-oriented malware apps are not recommended for servers - certainly not in real-time protection mode anyway. You could run one on demand if you thought an infection had got on it but you'd need to be very careful about what you allowed it to delete.

Also I think that for the most part the sort of viruses that make it onto file servers are not what MBAM is really designed for - unless someone's been browsing the web on the server.

I use ESET exchange or file server for my clients. It's pretty decent value for a modest number of users/mailboxes. It comes with a good list of exclusions built in meaning there aren't as many to add.

I know plenty of people who've run servers with not AV for years and not got infected. It's not something I see much at all.

I would stay far away from running an antimalware app with real time file protection on a server.

SBS already has a huge HUGE list of exclusions to use for real time file protection with certified antivirus programs...not to mention trimming down it's file extention types to scan. (do a search on these forums for a long informative thread I have on that topic)

Malwarebytes is more for threats you catch on the web anyways.....no reason for web based threats to be on a server...since, as most IT people know...servers aren't used for surfing the web.

I had a guy on another board asking about running combofix on an SBS08 box due to slow reboots... I am still not sure how he connected those dots.

I almost want to try it in a VM to see what happens to SBS.

I went with Eset Nod File Security (Trial Edition) to start. It has the exclusions built in. Here are some links if anyone is interested. They have an Exchange Mail solution too.

There are MANY more exclusions to add, as well as you need to change file extension type list from the default. I have a thread around here for antivirus exclusions for SBS. Esets default settings don't even follow their own guidelines for installing on SBS.
