Hey guys, hoping someone can help me out here. My personal Media Center has been running for years with bad caps. Well today it finally took a dump. Its failing memory tests no mater what ram I use in it. I am sure its the caps causing it.

Its an ASUS A7V8X-Deluxe. If anyone has one that would be willing to part with it let me know. I would rather not build a completely new system since this one was working great.

I would like to use another ASUS but If I can't find the Nforce board I would be willing to use another socket A board within reason. Let me know what you guys got and what you are willing part with.

I've just sold my stock of these before Xmas. Ah well, that's life

Replacing caps is easy though: just read the voltage and capacity and measure the spacing between the pins, and head over to RS components

You will need soldering skills and a heated solder-sucker or braid.

I dropped the FSB to 133 and the system seams to be running OK now however it seriously cripples my 2800+ CPU.

I think this systems days are numbered. I have this systems twin in my office. I may build another system for my office and part that system out to fix this one. Who knows. At least I can watch TV again, lol.

check out badcaps.net and do a recap. If you are sure they are caps problem, by all means give it a shot.

I actually have the exact board, but I can't part with it yet sorry :P (it's my parent's media center)

Those boards are rock solid, I gave my last spare to my dad a little while back.

Yes they are. The one in my media center has been full bore for like 6 years. Since I lowered the FSB today its in the living room running right now.

I think may try and change the caps. But I would like to have a replacement just in case I am not successful. There is also still a chance the the CPU is the problem. I tried running the CPU at 166 and the memory at 133 and it didn't work. The only way it will run is if the entire bus is at 133.

Well I found one on ebay. It was a little pricey but it will work. It was $86 but it comes with a 3000+ and 512mb of ram.

even with the replacement I would still suggest that you change the caps just for kicks.

I do think 80 bucks for the set is a little on the high side, but the ram sweetens the deal a bit.

Honestly the ram in my mind is just going to get tossed in to the spare parts pile. The CPU though will be a nice upgrade from the 2800+ that I have now. I believe the 3000+ is a 400FSB chip.

I am going to try and change the caps. If it works out I will use it to upgrade my bench computer. It uses an A7V8X-X, it would be nice to have SATA on my bench computer. If it doesn't go well I will at least upgrade the CPU on the bench computer from a 2000+ to the 2800+ that I am taking out of my media center.

Hey I might even try upgrading to Windows 7 MCE from the Windows XP MCE I have been using.
