Logmein Free No More:(

Is there anything out there that does not involve installing a program on the viewer computer? I have a business that wants to share their screen with their CPA occasionally but they do not want to have to install anything like remote utilities. I currently use GFI with their version of teamviewer host so using teamviewer would not work.

I think you need to specify what you consider to be a program. Anything that allows remote access is going to be a program, as it is code that wi.ll be processed by the CPU. If you are just looking for a program that gives remote access without a whole ton of cruft, maybe the Chrome plugin for remote access would be what you are looking for.

Let me clarify a little, I am not looking for something to use as a tech, I need a way for my clients to share their desktop to others or for that ever so often remote session to do a little after hours work. I have three businesses that need to allow their CPA to at least see their screen. The issue is the CPA does not want to have to install another program on their system. Something like logmein worked just perfect for them. They would need unattended access for the after hours work so something like join.me would not work.

As it stands now one is going ahead and purchasing a year of logmein to continue using for their needs. The others really don't want to get it on principal and are still looking for an alternative, TeamViewer is the only other one that I have used or even GoToMyPC maybe but don't have any personal experience with the latter. Are there any others that may be worth a look for unattended access and ease of use for "the normal" user?

Multiple remote options

To answer the original question... I purchased our own remote appliance for my company from RHUB. I use it for remote support and conferencing. The price works out great for me as it comes out to just under $40 per month... regardless of how many techs I have.

I also just added LogMeIn Central, which still allows for 200 LogMeIn Free accounts for the first level. We also purchased some Pro accounts for those clients without servers that are willing to pay for me to monitor updates, virus protection, etc on their desktops.

As for customers wanting their own remote access... LogMeIn is still the first choice. I just tell them they need to make the purchase. Second choice is TeamViewer... it's looking a lot more attractive if you only need one session at a time. I like my RHUB because I can have multiple sessions.

AeroAdmin and Join.me both offer small apps that do not install (they are executables, but 'portable' style) to the computer. I just tried out AeroAdmin -- it has some wonky issues (like it changed the background settings for some reason) from what I've seen. Our IT guy at work has used Join.me in a pinch, and it seems pretty fast and stable.

Just found this:

http://www.remoteutilities.com/

Free for businesses for 10 users :)

From their site:

In the light of recent discontinuation of the free license for business use of one of the prominent remote desktop software vendors we decided that we should extend our free offering to cover not only home users, but also businesses.
The new free license replaces the license previously offered for free. Changes to the new free license include the following:
We will lift all feature limitations from the free license.
We will extend the scope of the license so that it can also be used in business.
We limit the number of remote computers to 10.
Each person or business is entitled to only one free license (one product key for 10 remote PCs).
You can use the free license both at home and in business, no strings attached.
As you can see, whether you use the license at home or in business, you have 10 remote PCs to register for free. Of course, we honor the previously generated free licenses (coded “RUT-F…”), and you are free to use them under the earlier terms and conditions.

Regards,

So my take on this is its free to use on up to 10 customer pc's, which means after you've logged into 10 different remote hosts your done right? Or does it mean up to 10 business pc work stations to provide remote support? If its only up to 10 different remote jobs its not worth even trying for me.

Its for 10 computers, not sessions.

Am I the only one who is still using logmein without paying? I can still access all or work systems using my old logmein free details

Have you ever purchased anything from them? What they have been doing is charging peoples cards without telling them.

They have kept cc #'s from their customers for other purchases, and then billed them for this if they kept their account. Which is fraud in my opinion. I changed my card # because of it. They billed me for something I didn't want, and have refused to refund it. They are still trying to bill me for 2 pro licences that I "purchased" in oct of last year. Which I never used, and still wont use. What has me so amazed, is that when they tried to bill for it in oct, for the upcoming year, I told them I didn't want it, and they said they were not going to take if off.

Can't remember ever buying anything. Have check our bank statements and nothing has been taken. We did get the warnings and it still says free in the subscription details box.

I think I will just keep quiet

Yep, I am done with Log Me In...

Screen Connect paid version with three licenses is what our Field Team uses..

I was using Log Me In for awhile just to tap into my workstation from the home (17 miles away)

Only Screen Connect.. I do not support companies that don't consider their customers. I understand wanting to make money, but I have had direct dealing with vendors that just shot themselves in the foot (A Cable Vendor for One and a Recycle Vendor for two) that were making good money, changed the rules for some reason that seemed good at the time. I warned them both that I would be using someone else, no big deal, a year later they both come back wanting to do business the old way. And I am a nice guy, sure, no problem, but momentum and the fact that certain guys with us are buyers hurts them.

I am not going to say to my buyers... "Hey, you have to start using that cable company that decided not to sell direct to us after ten years, because they have decided they made a mistake" I say" "So and So is back to selling direct, use your judgment"

The recycle vendor was just greedy... It was easy and breakeven.. They had a good reputation. Now, I make money on recycle and they are doing whatever it is that they do, ruining what I think was a good reputation by trying to make it more profitable than it already is... I don't name names unless you have a direct question.

I use Teamviewer.com and I absolutely love it. It has file transfer, so easy to use and great tech support too.

One more for Teamviewer, the software is great and honestly more capable than Logmein in General. I only miss the hardware and OS monitoring features and to know when was the last time a client was online. Also it was good to know if there was a user on keyboard so i can know if it is a good time to assist him or not. The upgrades also could be more cheaper costing me about 300€ annualy (35% software cost).
