Ok Im back at it and need to figure this out. I LOVE teamviewer but cant pay that much to use it. I also LOVE logmein rescue, but again cant pay that much to use it. In doing research on logmeinfree, the only thing I can see would be that I can not use file transfer. So, would a remote drive like skydrive or soemthing along those lines work to deliver the packages needed for cleaning and whatnot? I do this in spare time and it is not yet my FT career so I have to start somewhere. Thanks in advance.....

Google Drive, Drop Box, etc etc.... they will all do the job.
Not as pretty and professional as some other options, but you have to start somewhere.

If you have a domain/website, one option is to always put all your tools up there and make a nice looking HTML pager for displaying the download links. That would at least give a more professional look to things.

This is just me loaning you my 2 cents though.

2 cents works for me. I am also researching screenconnect. That seems to be a fave among people and its a one time purchase.

It's what I use, really do like it.
For a "Me, Myself, & I Inc." guy like you, you can actually run the ScreenConnect server role on your desktop and just forward the ports from your firewall to it to get yourself up and running until you find it necessary or affordable to get a server (assuming you don't already have one).

Hmmm I am going to give it a shot. If I can make a bit of money with it I will buy it for sure. I have a website on godaddy, will that work for a host or is self hosting better? I am on 40mb internet at my house so I think I am plenty fast :P

We use ScreenConnect here and really like it.
We need to upgrade to another license this year though I think.

We have it running on our SBS2008 box here at work and we are on a 50mbs fibre connection and it works fine.
I've just setup a free wordpress website on Windows Azure and pointed it to our Screenconnect server: (The domain isn't free though)

No, what you do is have most of your clients on logmein free. The 2nd thing you do is purchase 1 or 2 logmein pro licenses. (Worth every penny)

and when you need to transfer files, or need the extras included, you go to your dashboard, and you remove the pro license from whatever computer its applied to (makes it a free license) and you then add it to the computer your working on.

I did that for a long time until I finally got enough computers we maintain to pay for pro on all of them.

You cant go wrong with logmein.

Thanks for the pointers tp Supremo

I've been trying to find support software that would let me connect through firewalls and be "reasonable" in price. I don't need it often, so "free" is good. Appreciate the pointers here

If you use gfi max you can use team viewer to do remote work. You can send a link or link and attachment right from your dashboard. It might be a little cumbersome but you get to use a team viewer variant for pennies on the dollar. Plus GFI is always rolling out improvements. So it will only get easier with time.

I'm surprised Ammyy Admin doesn't get more love. I don't do a lot of remote work, and in the past used Supremo but have run into issues where on certain systems it just flatout wouldn't run and is somewhat limited when it did work. AA is dirtcheap and haven't had it fail me yet. The free one only allows for 15 hours per month, other than that it's the bee's knees.

Yeah but this doesn't always work, and you cant count on it installing immediately when you use a preset script through GFI. I once waited 2 days for it to finally install teamviewer.

+1 for a floating Logmein Pro license and just assign it to the computer in question when needed. Logmein is a solid product, it just works.

I especially like the fact that there is no installation required. Just run the executable. Nice.

So back to screen connect for anyone who uses it. I believe in reading that I can utilize my go daddy account and set up a server that way, however what about a dedicated pc in my office that runs it separate from my working pc? Also thank you all for the advice its a lot to think about and try over the next couple weeks.

At one point there was some sort of crucial crucial problem with Ammy Admin. I do not remember exactly what it was but if my memory serves me correctly it was that control of the keyboard was completely lost for the customer. It was something critical like that and thats why I passed on it....there was something else too that bugged me..think it was antivirus flagging it as a virus but cant recall for sure its been years.

+1 for Ammyy Admin. I use it all the time and with the new V3.1, rarely have a problem with the A-V frustrating its use. I did have a problem with Kaspersky blocking it just the other day and I'll wait until I can go on-site to resolve that. Even using join.me was no help, as KIS blocked me from seeing the screen with it, too. AA is very fast and a delight to use. Under $70 for a lifetime license and free upgrades, and a great product, can't be beat.

I've just bought ammyy as a backup and really impressed with it for the cost, but also planning on also getting screenconnect, we currently us teamviewer and being having problems with some remote customers, as well going to set up an vnc program just so I have a lot option on hand.

I started using Techinline, I did not need a lot of use but wanted to be able to brand it. It is a per use cost as little as $4 per use. I tried Instant Housecall and it was great along with being brandable but the pricing structure was not justified.

This is exactly the thread I was looking for lol. Have been wanting to offer remote housecalls for years now. But everytime I start weighing pros and cons the price of monthly subscription options never seemed justified in my small town, but the one time purchase options were always missing something. Ideally I would like super simple install for the customer, as close to 1 click as possible. I would like more than 1 concurrent session, not a ton, but a couple, without spending a fortune. I need it to maintain session even through reboots into safemode w/network. I would like the ability to blank out customer screen so they don't necessarily see every single step of my process. And some logo branding would be nice. Does anyone know for sure if you can use screen connect with a basic godaddy webhosting acct? That's what I use for my website and PC Repair Tracker currently...
