I may have made a mistake and changed my business phone number to a Google Voice number. I have been experiencing all sorts of mixed and random issues and now im not sure if its me or i made a mistake.

I can transfer my G. Voice number to vonage which always works well.

has anyone had issues with G. Voice as a primary biz number?

I have 2 issues and have been looking to transfer my number out.

The first issue is it just not working. Someone can call it and simply nothing happens. No ringing, no nothing. I have no idea it is happening eiher, so I can't really do anything about it. Also, it doesn't go to voicemail or show up in my history, so I have completely lost the call as if it never happened.

The second issue that it likes to imagine the number 4 was pressed and turn Call Recording on and off at random.

I personally i wouldn't use any Voip service for my main line home or business, for the fact you can have issues with it. I mean they a great for the price.

And you can't have a alarm setup with Voip, alarms require a lan line, and if power goes out phonelines have there own power running through them.

I use it all the time. I have it forwarded to my cell phone and my magic jack. I've not had anyone tell me of any issues and as far as I know I'm getting my calls.

I have been using it since it was launched and they only issue I have is Apple/ATT blocked the app for it. So it's sort of a pain having to launch the web app to call people. I also get people who don't know how to leave a message and I get dead air for 3 minutes on voicemail.

I had a call from Kesaya the other day that went from G voice to my cell. It seemed like we had really bad lag (about a second or two). It was bad enough that she would start talking and then I would and then we'd both stop....it happened a few times and was awkward.

I don't have that number for my primary business number yet, but was testing it out to see if it would work.

Jury is still out...

I do the opposite, I forward my office phone (vonage, so still VoIP) to my GV number which then rings the office phone, my cell and my wife's cell. The main reason I use GV is to have a consistent voicemail greeting. When I was using the simulring feature on Vonage I got inconsistent results on which voicemail picked up. I have recently been having a few problems with GV, but I think it is mostly a problem with sending the call back to my office phone (even though it is the second line on my vonage adapter).

I do as others have said and forward my business number to my GV number and it forwards to my personal cell. I LOVE the fact I can carry one phone and know whether it is a personal call or a business call. I also love the online voicemail system as well as the emailed voicemail transcript.

Now the bad.....I've been having problems with the service. I had to turn on Call Presentation to get it to work after almost a year of it working without CP turned on. So now I have to answer and then press 1 to actually pick up a GV call. If I don't, my iPhone voicemail picks up and not my GV voicemail. MAJOR PAIN! Then randomly GV will quit forwarding the calls to my cell. It just flat won't ring on any phone and all the calls go straight to GV voicemail. This is NOT ok for business. The concept is awesome and it worked better a year ago than it does today. I've had many days of frustration and there is NO way I'd have my business set up solely on a GV number at this point. Just my gripes!

Been trying it since I had an invite (6 months+), and just yesterday stopped; too often was getting lag/delay, and occasionally would run into someone that would say 'we tried to call but it wouldn't go through'; so I'm shelving this for awhile.

Yep I've had the same thing happen occasionally too. I think the concept is awesome but the actual service could be better. I think this is the problem with free products, we can't expect too much support.

I've been using it for 1.5yrs with no real issues, other than one day last year when their service crashed

other than that i love it

Ok let me come back today and answer the OP's question.....NO GV is not ready for a business phone. Today my phone has been quite. Dead quiet. I had a GV voice mail show up in my email which was strange since my phone never rang. No biggie it was a solicitor. By 2:30 pm I was thinking, "wow I've gone from slammed to 0 phone calls all day. This is weird!" Then I have a customer show up at my door and say, "I've been calling you and I can't get your phone to ring? Nothing. It just sits there." Sure enough I call my GV number and after 30-45 seconds of silence it says "I'm sorry you've dialed the number incorrectly blah blah". I hang up and call back, 30-45 seconds of silence and then I get a fast busy signal.

Guys this is unacceptable. I'm fixing to look into a paid service. I cannot put up with this. I've been twiddling my thumbs all day long since I worked hard yesterday to get all but 2 computers cleared off my bench. As busy as I've been for the last two weeks, I've just got to wonder how much money I lost today when people couldn't even get my voicemail when they called my number.

This pisses me off BIG TIME. But then again, you get what you pay for.:mad:
