iPhone 5 randomly crashing, rebooting

Hi guys, I have the iPhone 5 and am still on iOS6 - I can't stand the calendar quirks as well as a few other things in iOS7, so I never upgraded my phone.

It started randomly rebooting/crashing on me recently. I have a very limited number of apps that I actually use regularly. I deleted a couple apps that I recently updated, even though I never use them - of course it didn't make any difference.

I've tried keeping all apps closed entirely, yet it still happens.

I can't go on like this, as it probably won't resolve itself, and I run my business from my phone...can't risk it getting worse.

Couple questions:

- Can anyone give any pointers to deciphering the crash logs on the iPhone? I've looked at them & read a few sites but still can't make heads or tails of them. The crash logs all mention "Springboard" as being the primary offender, best as I can tell.

No, I've never jailbroken my iPhone.

- Unfortunately, I think I'll have to upgrade to iOS7 because I'm sure that Apple won't even look at it with the old iOS6 installed, right?

Oh Man.....

Not sure that they will look at your phone while still being on iOS 6. I know they stop doing those updates awhile ago. Pretty cool how you still manage to keep it on that version and working with no problems.

The first thing apple will say is do a factory reset on it and that will move you onto ios7 as you won't be able to put ios6 back on.

That's my thinking....ugh....well, I'll have to upgrade anyway when I get the new iPhone 6 this fall....if my current phone makes it that long!

We'll see....I'll have to do the iOS7 upgrade I guess.

Blackberry.....you guys kidding?

Used to have one & absolutely loved it, but compared to the iPhone??

No way jose....RIM is dead they just don't want to admit it yet.

Hope iOS 7 works for you.. have had two friends' phones either brick or randomly reboot on 7.1.1

I'm not *too* worried about it. Absolute worst-case scenario, I have an upgrade credit I can use on the 5S, though I was definitely hoping to last until the iPhone 6.

That's the catch-22 I'm in; I've read of this issue with brand-new iPhones + iOS7, so it's not necessarily 100% a software issue.

But then if I do the iOS upgrade and the issue persists, I'm probably stuck buying a phone I don't want - the 5S. I want the 6!

*sigh*

Well it's still too early to tell but I *think* the iOS7 upgrade fixed the problem.

I was in bed last night & it crashed again (still on ios6).....I had already backed it up 30 min. prior, so I hit the "install" button and did the upgrade right then.

We'll see how it goes, but I don't think it's crashed since the upgrade, according to the logs.

The bigger thing is that I actually don't hate iOS7 as much as I thought I would....it pains me to admit that some of the new features are kinda cool, like airdrop, swiping up for control center, etc. I knew I'd like those features, but I was just so resistant to it.....

Anyway, we'll see......thanks guys.
