Installing modem

I am using fedora 7 Linux.And i want to connect BSNL data one broadband.Pls tell how to configure the modem.

What is the name of the modem?

Does is the Winmodem in it anywhere, This is important because although most winmodems will work some will not because it is a winmodem (Windows-modem) it uses windows to do some of the work.
