I am replacing a hard drive in an a1418. I have gotten the screen off carefully and apart from buying the foam kits on eBay or Amazon is there a generic foam adhesive I can buy for future replacements?

Thanks but I have already bought a kit, I was looking to see if I could just get the foam myself and cut it to the correct length to save having to order different kits for different sized screens

When I worked at one of the kiosks in the mall we used rolls of tape. Like these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/311613428101

Then we used an exacto knife to cut it right up to the edges.

Pretty certain that what Apple has is based on a COTS product. If it was me I'd get a clear handle on the thickness, foam and adhesive properties. Then start looking at 3M products.

I've worked on plenty of the iMac magnetic connected screen systems, and fairly comfortable taking those apart. I'm terrified by the thought of opening the newer designs. Are the glued on iMac screens that difficult?

The few I have done were quite simple. Way easier than an iPad screen.

this was my first new style iMac and it wasn't too bad. I followed the ifixit guide but used a retractable knife and was careful. The screen was still a bit stiff to come off but I didn't have any problems.

I bought a kit to put the screen back on and it worked well
