Had a desktop come in and usb keyboards and mouse wont work

The flash drives show the light when connected but arent actually connected according to windows

Pulled the CMOS battery and now get a bios reset error but cant use a keyboard to get back into windows

Havent tried a regular mouse and keyboard yet since everything we have is now all usb lol

Never had this issue before, its quite odd to me

Try going into Dev. Manager & "scan for hardware changes" while the usb devices are plugged in. I bet it will pick them up.

I had a buggy system awhile ago that I did this for & after a couple of tries it actually held after a reboot.

EDIT - I just re-read this part -

Try booting with UBCD for Win & see if you can't get things functioning using that.

+1 for this.
You need to find out if the hardware has failed or if this is a Windows issue. Boot from that disk and/or a bootable Linux disk and see if the problems go away.

I assume that you mean the USB keyboard won't allow you to bypass the error in order to boot?

If so you have USB not working at boot which almost certainly a hardware issue (possibly firmware?)

Try a PCI (PCI-x) USB card and see what happens.

Just an FYI, I just serviced one of these under an extended warranty. (i5 newer HP, still on win7 tho) The mainboard was the problem. I looked at the new board, and they are using Foxconn, so quality is here or there....

Hope this helps.
