How do you reponse to customer whom compare your price with service to website retail price?

heh sou
Just had a customer in the shop this morning with an iPad with a cracked screen, he said he had been quoted £35 ($50) but thought he was being ripped off.
Told him we don't repair iPads but that quote was ridiculously cheap.
He went off to try other repair shops, convinced he would get a better deal.

He sounds like he was lying. I have never seen an iPad screen repair for under $100 bucks... or in your case I guess it's £55.

Had a guy like this last year who decided to fix his laptop himself. Only thing is, he didn't remove the rechargeable battery when he started prying it apart and something went pop. Yes I took a look at it.

Too many people out there who think they can fix everything themselves.

I had a customer call me out to look at his laptop a few years ago. For some reason can't remember why but I tried to remove screws. The would not loosen up. Customer the tells me he put lock tight on every screw when he reassemble it. He ended up buying a new laptop

Yep, this thread pretty much nails it. You already did the research, have kept the part in stock for a while and also have to guarantee both the part and the completed install. So just why should that part be cheaper than right off the shelf at Amazon?

Ouch, you can do that and it may not be a bad idea, but you want to get the right kind - you want a weak hold, not something that's designed to be broken free with a Phillips 3 screwdriver when you have Phillips 0 screws.

1) Had a guy (Indian) who wanted a new PSU for his laptop. I have them in stock. When I told him the price he demanded a discount!
I asked why?
Because I drive the bus past your house, so you must give me a discount!

2) Had another guy asked me to quote on two 128GB USB 3.0 Thumbdrives.
I gave him the price, $98 each, and after a stunned silence from him, he told me he "could get them on eBay" for $25 each!
I said "ok" go for it! But be aware that eBay can be perilous!
About a week later I got a call from the same guy who said that his new 128GB USB 3.0 drives wouldn’t work!
He asked if I could take a look for him. I said "yes, no problems, but I will have to charge you $25 for labour."
He wasn't happy that I was going to charge him to look at them, but he agreed!
I plugged them into a test system, I wasn't prepared to plug them into anything important!
Sure enough they didn't even register! So, I convinced him to let me take one apart to see if there was anything inside - there wasn't!
He had paid $70 plus postage for two empty cases!
I'm still laughing!
