How do I identify video card chipset in XP

Wow, my tech/troubleshooting skills have gotten rusty in the last year or so - sorry for this simple question.

I'm on a friends PC and they had a new (used) video card installed when theirs went bad and the shop didn't have the correct drivers for it, so it is limping along. I can't pull the machine out to look so how do I find out what video driver is needed?
Device manager -> Display Adapters-> "My video Hook Driver 2"
Under the display settings -> Advanced - Adapter It lists nothing, all is blank.

This is an XP system BTW. I know it is an ATI card. Any ideas? MS update doesn't find anything.

The simplest method is to open the box and just look at the card, it will have a model number on it somewhere. This is what I've always done...I'm pretty sure there is software out on the internet for identifying cards off their hardware ID though.

There's a lot you can do. One of them is by using Microsoft's DirectX tool. Start / Run / dxdiag / Display. There you get all the details. However, should that not work, try SystemInformation for Windows XP tool. It has all sort of details. Another is to try the UnknownHardware tool, if it's unknown. The tool gives you the hardware ID that you can simply google it. The hardware ID will obviously reveal the chip.
