help with something that not everyone knows

I hope I'm on the same page..

Is this like being @ school or somethin' and they have some websites blocked so you can't access them? Like the main social-network sites, flash game sites, file sharing sites etc..

When i was @ High School I used to use a site called http://www.hidemyass.com and enter my site into the field and voila!

As far as I know it has to do with the DNS.
If your website is stored on a server with hundreds of other websites, then you should purchase yoiur ns-xxxxx.com name from your web service provider.
That will change to ns-yourdnsname.com and I believe you will be placed in the right category regardless of the other webistes hosted at the same IP address.

Edit:
I just found out that even technibble.com is does not have it's own name server. It is in fact "NS14.ZONEEDIT.COM"

And is not the only website ;) Name Server: NS14.ZONEEDIT.COM (has 182,072 domains)
Full details here: http://whois.domaintools.com/technibble.com

And there are 2 domanis hosted at technibble's IP address:
# Computerrepairtalk.com
# Technibble.com

Whatever he does it'll only be a matter of time before his site gets blocked again. It's a hacker site with so many dodgy keywords and links that nobody in their right mind would want running on their network.

There's only one bit of advice the OP should be given...

i have been reading about it for few hours today, and i think it has to do soemthing with DMOZ CATEGORIZATION. I have noticed that some websites open because they are in "computer & internet" category, i check dmoz.org which is an online directory, and found that those websites were listed in the "computers and internet" in DMOZ.

so apperantly, they are using DMOZ.ORG database as their database to block the websites. I have submitted my site under "computers and internet" category, and it will take sometime for them to update it. lets see how it goes.

wow, should I feel stupid? (again..)

I really thaught I was helping by actually answering to this thread.
This guy is in noone's books. He's probably a script kiddy.
Had a look at his website, and there is nothing there to suggests he is actually entitled to any "hacker" credentials, ethical or not.
Real hackers/crackers don't post their rival's hacks/cracks.

i m gonna ignore these comments because i dont care about that. Anywayz i think as i said in my previous post DMOZ is the thing regulating it.

Uhh, two things:

1. I edit stuff for DMOZ, its just a directory listing it has NO VALUE to any site categorizing system.
2. I used to manage the linux box our proxy and cache/filter ran on and you can set those labels to say whatever you like if they don't have one that fits what they're categorizing.

You're confusing everything together - what you need to do, is use a web proxy to access a site that is restricted, once its been banned, either appeal to those who've banned it and get it repealed or see above (the proxy). Those are the only ways, adding it to DMOZ, even if they let you add it (its not automatic, a person will check the links and approve or disapprove of it) will do NOTHING.

Can I ask who's blocking the site, then at least we can give you directions to get it unblocked or suggest a proxy that will work at least for a while, until they catch up and block the proxy.

Ahh, if its an office running a nanny system, its very unlikely the guys at IT will let you view a site about hacking on their dime, that puts them in hot water, and if they find you've accessed it from an office PC, then that might be a bit dodgy legally for you TBH.

My advice, take a laptop or a EEEPC to work and surf with wireless cos you wouldn't want to loose your job over wasting your time when you should be working, reading about hacking surely?

its not that i want to BYPASS something. Its just that i want to understand how they've worked on it. because proxy sites wouldnt work. i've tried all of them, they are blocked under "proxy & translator" category. And if you guyz are saying that my IT has blocked it then i really dont see the point because IT cant block all 1000s of websites. I've even tried "ultrasurf" that didnt help either. Tried green socks, that didnt help either.

Its a big database, depends who makes the filtering software, some are automatically tied to all others, some are proprietory and or people send in new sites, and others look for keywords in the website.

Ours was a home-brew mixup, it was Squid based and ran on our main line to the ISP so it auto blocked on the in, if a site got passed around (this was a school), then I would add it myself from the logs and it would be updated then and there.

Basically, it looks for keywords, or the people who make the filtering software have people who view websites that are frequented by hackers and the like and just take the links as they appear and add them manually. Plenty of lists of bad sites that one could make their own box at home if you knew enough Linux and had some experience with Squid and Apache, then it just routes all traffic through the box.
