Give YOURSELF Leverage When You Schedule Appointments

How do you leverage your schedule and make a very insitant person agree to an appointment during the next business day?
Simple.
[Customer] Can you do it tomorrow?
[You] Sorry, tomorrow is a scheduled holiday. The office is closed.
[Customer] But I want it done tomorrow
[You] No.
And so on and so forth 'til trumpets sound and angels come.

I had a call today (Sunday) from a prospective residential client.

I tend not to work on Sunday's unless it is very special circumstances, and tomorrow is Thanksgiving Monday.

I never return a call on my day off. Weekend calls get returned Monday morning.

If someone is insistent for me to work on a major holiday, I tell them the charge is double time and a half ($250/hr), 2 hour minimum, CASH ONLY payable before I start the work. This will usually encourage them to wait until the next business day.

Over the years I've had a couple of people asking me to work on Christmas and New Year's Day. Quite insistent as well. Not so much after hearing how much it will cost them.

I've learned to screen my calls on weekends/holidays.

Except for very few exceptions, they will get a call back on the next scheduled work day.

When I first started and needed the work, I would do 24/7. Whatever was needed. Became quite hectic.

I have weekend rates which would also apply to holidays. I tell my clients I can save you money on weekend rates if you wait until Monday.

now you're the nice guy saving them money as opposed to making them wait to get their computer fixed.

Wow.

I'm going to start implementing this immediately.

Now I feel like I've been acting like a desperate schmuck.
