Thanks for reminding me about this. Had a client and former work friend bring in a windows 8.1 all in one system loaded with things, she got the typical page that said call Microsoft your computer is infected etc etc. Her son is apparently in IT and learned stuff on server 03 and Windows XP. Wanted me to extras, didn't want her to buy AV etc. Lol.
Anyway, did the shift restart method, popped right into safe mode, did not even bother booting normally at first, got right into safe mode, inserted my drive with my tools, ran about 4 quick scans, cleaned out registry and temp files, defrag and windows updates, finish up with a bootable scan for leftovers after deleting all system restore points, computer is happy as a lark. I think she'll be happy with it now. Was finished quickly.
