Hey guys, I normally don't ask for help on things like this, but I have been searching and searching for a couple days now and I can't find any solution.

I have a customers Gateway NE56R41u and the SD card reader isn't working. I've searched high and dry trying to find an appropriate driver, but gateway doesn't have any drivers for windows 10 specifically and I can't seem to get this thing to work (even with the windows update driver)

The SD card slot is directly soldered to the mobo, Gateway model - EG50_HC_HR (U3E1). Any help on this would be great

So far...
I've attempted to uninstall the driver and re-scan for new hardware (automatically searched for best driver and didn't work)
Checked Gateways site, only could find up to 8.1 drivers(which I tried and didn't work), nothing for W10
Checked Broadcom's site and still couldn't find anything suitable

Thanks in advance!

Gateway may not be the only manufacturer that uses this card reader and others may have a win 10 driver for it.
So, what I do in that case it to google search for the hadware identification numbers from device manager, then If you are lucky, you will find what you need.

I have encountered a camera (Fujifilm FinePix A820) that Windows 10 will not read the embedded Xd card when the camera is attached with the default USB cable. The same exact camera worked fine on the same exact PCs when the PCs were running Windows 8.1. The same exact camera continues to work fine when I plug it into other Windows devices like Win7.

While searching on the Microsoft community forums I came across a number of people complaining that Windows 10 broke certain kinds of device connectivity and there were no solutions given. Your problem may be similar.

fabs - I'm having trouble finding this identification number in device manager, could you point me in the right direction?

Metanis - I was starting to lean towards that myself, this isn't the first time I've experienced windows 10 break the functionality of devices that worked prior.

The untold truth to this story is that this customer purchased this laptop from me 2 months ago as a refurb (it had windows 8.1 then) so he decided to upgrade it to 10, but claims the SD card slot didn't work from day 1, I don't believe that, but the fact that he brought it to me 2 months later to address the issue is primarily what makes me want to just say, sorry man, nothing I can do. Mind you, I already have about 3 labor hours wrapped up in this.

Thanks for the input guys, If I find a solution I'll be sure to share it!

It is in the details tab. If needed, use the drop down menu to get this IDs.
When I am seeking drivers, I use the longest string which should give the most accurate results.

You can try using Snappy Driver Installer to find and install the compatible driver.
If it doesn't help, you can attach its logs here(Expert mode -> Open logs).

Or if none of the above help, try pcidatabase.com and look up the Vendor ID (VEN) # and the Device # (DEV). Then using those numbers or a combination of the 2 of them you might just get lucky and find something that will do the trick.
