Had a client call and say their office computer was SLOW loading webpages and sometimes timing out. I went on site and found that web pages sometimes load like normal other times they time out. Did the usual malware cleaning, arp cache cleaning, change DNS numbers from google, to ISP's to Opendns', and to no avail. Started pinging websites and saw some packet drops, started pinging back to their router and packet drops.

Tested the cable, good, moved to another switch still dropped packets. Check with manufacturer for a driver update for the Nic card none available. Went out to radio shack (yes I found one) bought a usb to Nic adapter, cured problem.

How much did that USB to NIC set you back? Last time I bought something at Radio Shack it was a 6 foot VGA cable that was $25. Never again.
