Ever run a Repair Installation (XP) only to be locked out because the activation Window won't come up once the repair is done (just sits at background with mouse cursor...)? Well I accidentally found a fix that has worked with a 100% success rate the past 7 times I've done it.

*Boot to safe mode without networking, log on to any account, and install or reinstall IE8. IE7 works too. Once you restart into normal mode, the activation window will come up like it should, and that will let you activate and get back in.

Hope this helps yall, let me know if you try it and it works for you.

Isn't it funny how often reinstalling or changing IE settings will fix something else?. We had a antivirus installed on a compute that wouldnt update until we adjusted the settings in IE (think it was SAS and something about proxies).

Yeah and IE is not integrated in to windows my butt, lol.

EXACTLY ! Some customers ask me to completely remove IE because their friend told them it was bad. I just tell them I will remove all icons and links to it and leave the rest as they are better off that way. IE is very much integral to the O/S and MS knows it. But if the client hates IE I just make it very difficult to launch it and thats it.

I can confirm this. I find it a bit 'un-cool'.

After malware changed IE and Firefox settings (to use proxies) SAS would not update. This happened about 2 days ago. I re-set IE (and re-configured Firefox connection settings - but it's probably IE that did the trick) and all worked well.

My bad

OK, maybe it's because of the version of IE on the machine. I'll have to look into this some more.

You shed anymore light on this E?

Even easier go to safe mode > run rundll32.exe syssetup, setupOobeBnk
Type exactly how you see and restart

This resets 30 day activation period
