Fab's AutoBackup

Oh I didn't know there was a version 6 coming out so soon, I just bought version 5 (Like a few hours ago). Would it be possible to upgrade to version 6 when it comes out?

Only thing that can make this better is if double driver can be added. Double driver can work online or offline which fits Fab's way of doing things.

It is worth a try! There is only one thing that is a little disturbing : is that tool still maintained ?

Fabrice, I'd be REAL careful about providing this in Autobackup. It's great for USER-DATA items (e.g. docs, pix, email, browser profiles, etc), but providing DD to backup (and restore too?) hardware device drivers opens the door for other system and hardware-related items; and that's not Autobackup's core purpose in life. It does what it's supposed to do and does it extremely well.

Providing hardware-type features could lead to feature bloat and a tremendous time investment increase for you.

As an example, if the PC is 32-bit Vista with nVidia graphics, Autobackup might have to do a certain procedure to backup the drivers; but if it's 64-bit Radeon, then Autobackup might have to do something else. Keeping up with all the co-requisites could be a full-time job.

Or, if Autobackup used DD or some such tool, what happens when a new type of hardware or OS comes out that the tool doesn't handle? Now Autobackup can't do what its supposed to do, through no fault of it's own.

Also, what if the customer has a new PC? I can't see Autobackup being responsible for determining what new drivers are required.

We all have our own ways of handling device drivers, Windows updates, etc., let's leave it like that.

Just my .02 cents worth.

Well said and I 100% agree.

DD backs up/restores the existing drivers that are are on a computer and does not find or update anything.

I can see down the road where the issues posted could make for issues/lots more work.

I suggest making it a non default option like the additional folders are now.

There is another program like Fab's but I would rather support Fabrice because I think he is better at what he does.

I must admit that guys are right. If there is a driver failure somewhere due to a DD issue, people will not say that this is not my program's fault and they will blame me for that.
To be honest, I do not know what to do with this because I would take a huge risk :(

Very well. Thinking about it, I restore my driver backup way before I restore customers data. Also thinking it over more I do not need drivers every time I backup data. Best to keep it a separate step. Thanks Fabrice for considering it though.

Just a couple of questions.

1) How do the people that have bought 5 get the free upgrade?

2) Have anybody here tried the version for end users? I am thinking although it costs money it will be better than a lot of the alternatives out there and buying licences packs means there is a nice margin to be made.

Found the link for the free upgrade :)
