Hi everyone,
Just got that email before leaving home:
the fabautobackup 4 is bether then this one this one freeze
This is verbatim, nothing added, nothing removed.

I have replied back asking for details. No response yet.
The store's account matching with the email address shows that this person owns the end user version of Fab's AutoBackup 6 (not the pro) but that should not make a difference since both versions share their major parts of code.
Just because I am a concerned programmer, I try to get clues elsewhere, just in case.

Do you experience freezes with no specific reasons with Fab's AutoBackup ?

Now that you mention it. I was doing a backup today, 43GB+ , 29700 files. It had been ticking over happily for some time (an hour or more?) when the title bar showed "Not responding", no gui updates, it was copying over the network so i was also monitoring the target system, the drive writes dropped to zero and the network activity dropped to zero so i knew it had stopped working. It could be the drive struggling. I checked the smart stats but there were no read errors or bad sectors or other signs of degradation. After a few minutes it continued on it's merry way. Only now, it's occurred to me that I was using v6.4. Now it could be the hdd retrying for a while which would explain everything i saw but i can't be certain.

The times I see that is when the anti/malware real time scanner analyzes the file being copied. I have no other idea.
By the way, there is a 6.5 available ;)

I have had this (freezing) happen - but only when, on investigation, it turned out there was a disk health problem. Given that you usually use Fabs when a client is moving from an old, clapped-out machine to a newer one, it's not really surprising. Poor disk performance - whether they know it or not ("Oh, my computer's Sooo slow, now...") - is often part of the reason why folks change, so I'm not surprised by this comment, although it is definitely not a reflection on the software.

I've had it freeze maybe 3 times and if I remember correctly it's always right at the very end. I wish I had made a note of the file it had froze on but guessing it was something ending with a .dat and there was about 300kb left to write. It hangs for ages and if left it does get past it eventually, however if you click the screen it crashes the app.

It's something at the end of the schedule. I normally run most of the default options ticked and only additional one is ProductKey feature. If it happens again I'll send you a message Fabs.

It may be a good thing to run the job in debug mode. This way, I would get information about the machine, the current job and the files list. Hopefully that would help.

Yes you're right. I don't normally backup to a second computer, usually to a drive connected to the same machine so I didn't think to disable the A/V. And yes you're right I have v6.5 and v6.4 together on the thumb drive while I was doing comparison tests and ended up using the old version for this job. I'll let you know if I see it on v6.5.

"the fabautobackup 4 is bether then this one this one freeze" - I would react to this the same way when people tell me "You fix my computer but now it no work". If this is just one person saying this I would say you should "file" that info from the customer and keep going on as usual until they give you more info.

Wait, I'm confused. Fabs 4 freezes? But there's 6.5? I suppose upgrading wasn't though of? I so need to get a license. Who's got a discount code?

Rare occasion when I load fabs it will crash not showing the menu options. Simple close and open usually fixes it. But then again I'm on an older version as I forget to update :)

Hi,
The translation could be something like:
Fab's AutoBackup 4 Tech was better than Fab's AutoBackup 6. This one freezes.
The customer did not leave any clue, that is why I posted here, seeking some.

About the other question:
I have just sent a discount code in a private message. Let me know if you got it

No issues for me. Although.. I've been using it all wrong...

Been backing-up customers data just fine. However I don't know why but I've then been manually dragging and dropping the data back to the correct places. Only just noticed that I can restore the data using FABS!!

Oh man, lol! Better late than never though.
