Excel 2003 - Invalid File Format

I have a client who keeps an important excel 2003 worksheet to track his daily orders. However, whenever it is saved from a Vista Business Workstation to a Vista Business Workgroup Server, and then re-opened by another user an "Invalid File Format" message appears.

I have checked the permissions on the workgroup PCs and Workgroup Server and all appears correct.

Short of deleting the existing shared folders on Workgroup Server and starting again, I am not sure where else I should troubleshoot this weird problem.

Any useful thoughts on this one would be appreciated.

Excel File Developments

Further to the above post - I spent several hours with the client yesterday, and finally managed to stablize the relevant excel file. All users in the Vista Workgroup use Office 2003 on their workstations, but because Office 2003 does not provide a file preview feature, Office 2007 Trial was installed on the Server computer, which temporarily resolved the file preview problem.

Having removed office 2007, the invalid file format seems to have been resolved, however, despite relevant permissions being setup on the server PC, (Vista - Co-Owner) when different users attempt to make changes to the excel file, error messages appear indicating that there is either a sharing violation, or the file cannot be saved with the same name, because someone else has previously made changes, but with tweaking will eventually save the file over the existing one.

I have never experienced this on other workgroups before, and unfortunately most of the users are not that IT literate (one woman had 20,000 files in her Outlook and wondered why things did always go to plan) so I am spending more and more time just trying to get them to save files correctly.
