Eli the Computer Guy quits YouTube

Since the last year, his videos have lost my attention. I'm sure he'll come back down the road, but his viewers may just move on.

I've been watching Eli and Louis for awhile, mostly to watch them compete against each other. It's been pretty funny to be honest. Eli who has like double subs and views, talks about Louis often and Louis posts in his videos, cracks me up. Louis does 4 hour live shows and sometimes I listen while I do other things, he's entertaining to some level for me as I'm not into what he does, but I learn a bit. I think Eli got out of tech talk last year and in the past few months, started doing SEO on YouTube by posting insane titles and then being proud of getting more views, like his own version of Click Bait! lol. SEO on YouTube is almost easier than on Google. I found it fun to watch him do word play, but he got off tech talk and that's when I was done.

And to add: Yes, this is his 3rd try at quitting. He won't, just looking for attention.

Only way he quits for good is if the failednormal takes off. I think he said he had like almost 150 subscribers at 5 bucks a month. He was wanting or hoping for 1000 I believe he mentioned.

I don't really think ousting a majority of his audience by calling them idiots and morons is probably not going to drive sales to his $5 website.

I can see SOOO much he is doing wrong. I mentioned a few in my post earlier in this thread, but heres a few more:
  • Youtube is convenience source to consume information. We have logins for it, it streams nicely and we can watch it on most of our devices (PC, Phone, Media box etc). He took that to another site, requires another login and hosts them as 400mb to 4GB downloads on GDrive! Yes, you can stream on GDrive but so much convenience lost and not everything supports it (like my Apple TV for example)

Also, way to stick it to Google by going from one Google service to another.

  • None of this should be about him. Its about making other peoples lives better (thats pretty much the same for any business). For him, since hes in the market of information its about compressing information and delivering it to us in a interesting and entertaining way. Obviously people like and follow him but he hasnt done one in a while and the last few were complaining about Youtube.

The quality should have been ramping UP before he mentioned hes moving over to his own site. Then he could say "Hey, if you like what Im doing here, I have my own site and I'll be doing it EVEN BETTER over there".
That would be worth $5 per month for a lot of people IF he delivered it in a convenient way (which he didnt). But he signed off with just saying "hes done with everyone and doesnt care anymore".

I'm new to "Eli the computer guy". Bumped into his twitter account. What does this guy have to do with computers? Never saw a word mentioned about IT tech. Nothing but BS......

...and how he already left YouTube. (January, 2016)

I'm struggling to understand why he has a following?

He used to have some good content, for years. All IT Related. Check back on his YouTube a few years and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I like the videos that Rossman makes. Liked some of what Eli used to put out, don't care for the "new" stuff.

Even Rossman can tend to "inflate" the video a bit... could do without some of the ranting but really he does
great work, is very smart and gives great insight to what happens at these "apple repair centers". It's very
insightful for me at least, who has basically never owned or had to fix an apple computer and never had to
deal with the apple "geniuses" (although I think they tend to really devalue that term).

Anyone listen to/watch that Scott Alan Miller (SAMIT) on youtube? Some of his videos seem pretty informative...; although I tend to frown on his somewhat uppity attitude towards technical sides of repair (I take offense at his use of the term 'bench work' , sorry!)., he seems quite darn knowledgeable in many, many areas! (I read his stuff on Spiceworks, as well)

I think he really has shot himself in the foot with the way he has left youtube. I know a lot of people that are unhappy with the changes on youtube. His website sucks ass - he should have hosted his videos on Amazon S3 and embedded them. Why he is using another google service when he is sick of them is beyond me. The other thing he should have done was to continue to publish to youtube but actively promote his own website instead of just a complete shot to the head. Wasted talent and subscriber count.
