DVR Suggestions?

I am finally taking the time to convert my old VHS tapes to DVD. I bought an external USB 2 TV tuner that comes with XTV for recording. In the past I have used WinDVR (doesnt work with this tuner) and the ATI stuff but thats it.

XTV works fine, but for a 40 minute video, it ended up being 25GB!

Does anyone have any suggestions on software that will maybe encode the video as it goes along so I don't end up with such a huge file?

I used DVDXpressDX2 for several vhs home movies and it worked flawlessly. The encoding is done in the DVDXpress unit and the file sizes are normal, you get lots of movie on a regular DVD.

My honest recommendation, don't bother trying to reduce size of this raw video, unless you have space constraints. Once you make a DVD out of it, it will be reduced to about 2 GB or so anyways.
BTW, did you check the video properties using Gspot or something? (The size just sounds too much, regular 1hour DV video turns out to be 13GB then I wonder why this 40 min video is 25GB)

Yeah I am just going to use the bundled tuner. Its a 500GB drive so I will have to capture one video at a time then convert it.
