Dead LCD Sceen with LED backlight

I have a customer machine that has a LED backlit LCD screen that would not work. I tried replacing the screen with a brand new one to no avail. I can get video if I hook up to an external monitor so I know the video is working. Now LED backlit screens do not have an inverter so it can't be that. I get a quick dim flash (hardly noticeable) when I first turn the system on but otherwise nothing. I can also get the dim flash when I switch between external and internal video. Has anyone run into something similar? I really don't want to disappoint this customer but I'm kinda stumped.
