Client has deleted his user (wrongly) and all his files and settings in XP.

Can't see any of the files listed in any recovery program I have.

Suggestions please.

So far I've looked at

Recuva
Restoration
Retrieve IT
Spotmau

There seem to be about 38,000 identified files.
Most of these pertain to internet activity - either htm or stuff on a web page
What I am really looking for the the deleted user docs and settings. He can live without everything else. He had a load of spreadsheets (XLS) in particular.

And no SR won't help here, he must have chosen the 'delete all files' option that is offered when you delete a user.

Try getdataback, download the trial trial and see if that picks anything up, it should find the docs but not settings, only system restore can do that.

Thanks for the replies.

I don't know what a trial trial is couldn't find anything relevant on the web. about it.

I know SR will find some settings, but I don't need these. Only the docs part of that folder. A file list might help but
As far as I know the current folder/file structure is not recorded in the registry.

I don't know if anyone knows about the Windows user deletion process but it sems to delete files more deeply than just changing the pointers.

I will be experimenting further over the next few days and report back.

I ment a trial, i use EASEUS data recovery, it is just as good as getdataback or rstudio, you can download a trial and just be warned it takes a while, i paid £40 for mine.

Yes it is- I think everyone on this forum knows about it though, but it's very nice to have a reminder once and a while just in case people forget. I actually payed for my copies- which is rare these days :P

Except for the original poster, apparently. Hence it being mentioned. Now I remember why i stopped posting in the first place.
