Well I was using PayPal to process credit cards (I don't have many customers that like CC) and I was fine untill PayPal decided it would be fun to freeze my account..

Now I need a CC Processor, but I would really really prefer not to
(A) Pay a monthly fee
(B) Pay a fee for not having any credit card charges that month

Please help! PayPal can't be the only company out there like this

Take a look at ProPay (http://www.propay.com). There is no monthly fee, but they do charge a 3.5% plus .30 cents transaction fee and an annual fee of $49.

Not the best rates you can can, but with a little used merchant account, I doubt you'll be able to find anything much lower.

There is a company called Square Up that is in the final process of getting there service launched full force. They send you a little tiny card reader and they setup a merchant account for you that has an iphone and android app. Once this is launched and if it works ok, I plan to used this as my primary merchant account, as I'll be able to swipe cards right at the customers location.

Heads up: Square seems to have a max of $100/transaction. It's already up but I understand there's a loooooot of people waiting on the swipe readers.

Did Paypal say why they froze the account?

I use paypal and am overall pleased other than the fact it takes them 4 days to move funds to my bank. Really, in this day and technological age, 4 days??? They could snail mail it faster than that.

But anyway, I'm curious. What was the reason for freezing your account?

Try moving funds from a Canadian acct into Paypal or vice versa. It's usually 8ish. And then, to top it off, once the funds are actually at Paypal, a transaction still can take a few days to process.

As of June, I think SquareUp actually halted all new activations, and then put the $100 limit on all beta accounts. According to the latest Letter from the CEO, they are re-negotiating with there underwriters, and once that's done, all new accounts will under go a credit check, and your limits will be set based on your score.

I've been waiting for my swipe reader for a few months, and I'm sure it will be a few more until they get all there ducks in a row.

If and when it does get going, it will be a great little tool for accepting payment on-site.

Probably froze it by paying himself with credit card numbers from the same PC...

Heads up with ProPay, they will most likely require a deposit.

As for alternatives, Google Checkout comes to mind.

I would forget about squareone. You can try heading over to intuit.com and check out what they have.. its a 13 dollar fee a month, 1.8 to 2.8 rate on the percentage for the cards. They have a few products for processing cards so look to see which one is good for you..

I signed up months ago and I am still waiting on my reader. I don't plan to use it though if they really have a $100 limit. Theres no way I could deal with that.

I'm moving over to Wells Fargo to do all my business banking. I'm sick of having 4 different companies run my business. Next day payment! I haven't set it up yet, so I don't have their rates, but will post when I get them.

Right now, I use Paypal and run $1000's through it a month, never had a bad issue. I make all my clients now pay with credit card, I quit taking checks unless pre-approved by me. This is all done via my booking process.

Ladies & Gents Greetings

I'm using firstdata right now but plan on using Square when they complete their underwriting structure for new applicants.

Most of the people like myself have been waiting a LONG time for Square to remove their thumbs from there $%* however they did increase the rates from $100 to unlimited. This is a copy/paste from their site.

What are Square’s card processing fees?
2.75% + 15¢ for swiped transactions
3.5% + 15¢ for keyed-in transactions

There are no activation, gateway, monthly, early termination, or hidden fees.

How much money can I accept?
Square enables you to accept card payments of any amount. No limits.

You can visit here for the rest: https://support.squareup.com/entries/160793-frequently-asked-questions-faq#card-fees

I pay like $30ish a month to Firstdata and will ditch them as soon as square gets their stuff together. Good luck!

Besides processing fees, you also need to know that Square's settlement amount is $1,000 per week. Anything over that is held for 30 days before release.

For those of us who only process the occasional charge, it's probably not a big deal. But it would be a factor for the $4,000+ charge mentioned earlier in this thread. You're not going to process a large charge and have use of the money right away.

I would not trust Wellsfargo with a kids saving account. I would highly reconsider your move. They will fee you to death. One of the best moves I ever made was from wellsfargo to a small local bank. Now when I have a problem the people that I do business with care and I am not just a number responsible for a profit margin.

I have to agree, I was with Wacovia when they were brought by WF, what a freakin nightmare, they charged me fees for transfering money from paypal into the account. I am now a happy CapitalOne Customer
