Sometimes we get a computer with a really screwed up user profile and the only choice is to create a new one and migrate whatever you can from the old to the new.

Are there any tools that people recommend to make this easier or to help ensure you copy/clone as much as possible without missing things or putting bad junk/profile settings from the old to the new ?

I don't have much experience with this utility, but Fabs Auto Backup, from what I hear, does a great job migrating user profiles from machines to new machines.

Has to be same machine and I don't want to risk moving anything that might also corrupt the new profile. I know all of this can be done by hand but it would be nice to have it automated.

I don't know how you could automate such a thing. Corruption comes in different forms so short of a tool that can validate each file as correct as it copies....

OTOH most profile corruptions are registry problems so FABS and other tools can grab THE FILES just fine as it doesn't really touch the registry much.

NYJimbo,

Did you ever find a suitable tool? I am looking for the same, just wondering what you found. Reprofiler was suggested. Any luck with that?

The last time I had a bad profile to migrate I used D7 data migrate feature. Created a new user then migrated data and all over. It was a very smooth process and was actually able to pick up some extra business while waiting for the process to finish (they had over 70gb of information to copy over). I have used this same method in the past with no issue. Granted none of them were using outlook so I didn't have to transfer and import pst files or anything. I am not sure this would work in that situation but it might.

Nick has been beta'ing v5 of Fabs and is saying it has a LOT of command line integration (which he'll incorporate into D7II). Might well be possible to automate the export/import from a corrupted-to-new profile.
