Hi all

I have a problem with an acer laptop that I'm stumped on!

The drive is bad and so cloned to same size disk using acronis 2014

Here's the problem

I cannot get it to do a reset / refresh with the imaged disk - it says cannot locate recovery image (or something like that)

I can do a reset with original disk but it doesn't complete ( prob due to bad sectors

Has anyone come across this before?

Thanks

No, it is not the default, there is a check box on one of the screens (Destination Drive screen I think).

If you are feeling spunky, ddrescue is the way to go with these sort of things - It's a true bit-by-bit, sector by sector copy and you don't have to worry about Windows crapping out during a clone.

I clone disks all the time with easeus backup and they do not need to be sector by sector.

It obviously depends on what system your working with, but for the Recovery partition it may need to be a sector by sector copy because some systems have a BIOS in which it will look for that recovery partition at a non-standard offset. Many times when you use a cloning software it will not start that partition at the correct offset and the system will fail to load the recovery partition.

Yep. Sure many work just fine. Other crap out. Many have warnings about NOT using a disk defragger on them. They can break them.

Most disk cloning software wants to resize partitions. That can really screw up Recovery partitions.
